The first SSD I used day to day in my main PC was the Intel X25-M and despite being an eye-watering $4.87 per gigabyte, the 80GB model was a bargain at $390 considering the SLC X25-E was selling for almost twice that in a miniscule 64GB capacity. Back...

"Let the good times roll" must be what Samsung's SSD division is thinking right about now. After delivering what is still the world's fastest SATA SSD last summer, Samsung tempted value-oriented enthusiasts in December with its 'V-NAND'-based 850 Evo series. Like the 2013's 840 Evo, the 850 Evo was equipped with TLC NAND, albeit with the twist of being 3D TLC NAND -- known as V-NAND in Samsung's...

If you are looking for the best bang for your buck SSD, choose between the Crucial MX100 and the Samsung SSD 850 Evo series no matter the capacity. You can't go wrong with either, but if you don't mind barebones performance, the MX100 is just as good and a slightly better value than the new SSD 850 Evo at current prices.

Today's biggest-capacity consumer SSD, the 4TB version of the venerable 850 EVO packs the same speed and delivers the same strengths as Samsung's earlier models, but the price is quite dear. Read...

W e pity the poor SSD makers who have to face off against Samsung. The Korean giant has dominated solid state storage since releasing the original 850 Pro back in July of last year, highlighting the benefits that come when every component is built...

The Samsung's 2TB version of the 850 Evo offers superb capacity and it virtually matches the 850 Pro drive for speed. If the better warranty and endurance rating of the Pro are a non-issue for you, then this is the SSD to go...

If you need loads of storage and multiple disks aren't an option, Samsung's huge 2TB SSD is your only choice right...

Are you looking for a new SSD? Then yes, you should probably buy the 850 Evo. It's not quite as suited to high-end or business users as the 850 Pro because it lacks that 10-year warranty, but is otherwise largely similar in its performance figures —...

It's not the cheapest, but it's slim, light and brilliantly fast. Samsung promise a long life too. If you're looking for a new SSD, then this is certainly the one I'd...

By APC Magazine on January 20, 2015 90

While manufacturers have announced larger capacity SSDs (2TB and more), for storing a lot of files, a mechanical HDD is still a much more affordable option. This looks set to change in the future though, as SSD production volume increases lead to lower...

By TrustedReviews on January 13, 2015 80

The 850 Evo mixes cheaper memory with 3D V-NAND technology to strike a keen balance between price and performance, and it makes for an SSD that’s one of the best mid-range drives we’ve ever seen. The faster 850 Pro isn’t much more expensive, though, and capable budget SSDs are available for even less cash.

Samsung's mid-range SSD boasts Samsung's latest 3D V-NAND chips, and the price is suprisingly...

By Ubergizmo on December 15, 2014 90

Once again, Samsung delivers a great product, taking the lead in the SSD space with its advanced technology. 3D V-NAND is really a game changer. The 3rd TCL generation offers pretty much everything the consumer would want to see from an SSD,...
