So you re-installed Windows (from the computer's image) perfectly clean (removing your entire previous file system) and with this clean system, you then installed IE7; Firefox; set up your email again (and who's knows what else (ie Antivirus)
And then it faulted?

This all doesn't sound right :confused:
Is this what you did ?
If not, it may be best to do this (and backup first and user data)

ive found what i was looking for on c-net, it was my drivers about 12 of them. i ran a driver fixer and it found the drivers not working on my pc. a pci bridge, a usb 2.0 enhanced host controler, quite a few of them,pci soft modem, and so forth. so far its working pretty good.im running AVG virus and so far says its clean.

Fix Windows Update not working

Do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555989
Or specifically this: https://www.techspot.com/vb/post659514-6.html
Or if that fails, Download/Install/Run this program: http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix

Also if the above still doesn't work, click on:
Start-->Run--> services.msc
Once Services opens, locate these 3, double click on them, and change them to Automatic, and Start them.
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer
Event Log

If that doesn't work, do this:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES

If you still have issues, do this:
Click on: Start-->Run--> inetcpl.cpl
Click on Security tab-->Trusted Sites-->Sites button
Type each of the following lines, click "Add", and then repeat until they are all shown in the low box: (Note: The first line starts with HTTPS while others start with HTTP.)
https://v5.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://Download.Windowsupdate.com
Click OK, and then check to make sure no sites are listed in "Sites" of "Restricted sites".
Click OK to Save the settings.

If that doesn't work, do this:
Temporarily stop the automatic updates service.
Download http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264
Run WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
Rename C:\windows\software distribution to C:\windows\software distribution.old
Rename C:\windows\windowsupdate.log to c:\windows\windowsupdate.log.old
Restart the automatic updates service.

Log on as an administrator
Start->run->CMD type the following commands:

net stop wuauserv
cd \windows\system32
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

Restart

If internet explorer still does not work
Start->Run-->CMD
And on the command prompt type: sfc /scannow
You may need your Xp CD for this

That'll fix it :)

I take it Windows Update is now working?
You didn't mention that the above fixed it (or which one fixed it)

im sorry i reinstalled with hp not windows.
That's not real clear :confused:

I think you're saying you re-imaged with the Hp restore disk (or boot menu restore)

I asked you if Windows Update is now working
Obviously yes, if you re-installed Windows (please note HP is not an OS, even the image is Windows)

Hp just brand just about everything on Windows (ie HP Help), I'm not sure why MS even allowed it.

The first thing I do whenever I see a HP computer is turn off the hundreds of HP startups and entries all over the place. Most of the HP users can't believe how fast it is without all these Services; Starups; Updates; Tasks; Links and lots lots more removed !

Maybe start here, if you want to make Windows, Windows again! : http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
