In post #77,it sounded to me like you thought I had removed Google Earth. I now have removed it using revo & I ran ccleaner & did a search for Google Earth & nothing found. I don't know how to run ccleaner using the registry part.

Which function of CCleaner did you use? I think what St1ckM4n referred to is this:

You are not entering the registry by using CCleaner. That is what makes CCleaner so helpful, is it will clean some of the junk out of the registry for you. I usually run the registry cleaner every time I use CCleaner.

Ok, fine. But I'd still appreciate help. I did it previously in here on my XP, & had help.:)

You don't really need help with CCleaner. CCleaner does all the work. Click the button to scan for issues and then click another button to remove the issues. Some would tell you its not a good idea to remove all without looking through the list. I've not had any issues removing everything that was found.

Now if you was to enter the registry and navigate to a destination for edit, I would advise against that unless you have help. I do edit the registry myself at times but I am far from understanding everything there is to know about the registry. I am confident though that if a program has been uninstalled, any and all keys or entries can be removed associated with that program. However, I'm not confident enough to advise such a procedure.

Basically follow the direction on the page you linked. And definitely backup before fixing anything. I usually select "Fix All".

Just confirming the above stuff, also. You're good to go, learninmypc. :p

Uninstall Google Earth, run Ccleaner registry part, then reinstall Google Earth if you wish.

Thank you for the confidance. Google Earth has been uninstalled. I will write out the directions for the ccleaner registry part & run it later this morning.:)
At what point does it tell you to back up the registry? I just started it, clicked the registry box, Scan for issues & then fix selected issues, but nothing to do with backing up the registry.

A little box will pop up after you scan the registry and click on fix selected. It will ask you if you want to save changes made to registry.

Thank you. (y)Do I need to reboot after that,or not? If not,ok. Its done.

I don't always, depends on what and the number of registry items got removed. If it's driver related, then I reboot to make sure the computer still works. If it's something like file extensions, shortcuts, something trivial then I don't.

Should I try to attach it here so you'll know? I have the back up saved to my flashdrive. It said it was fixed.

No you should not have to reboot your computer. CCleaner is not that strong of a registery cleaner . Takes very little out of the registery.

Again, I thank you.(y)Since I'll have to eventually reboot/shut down eventually, I'm going to hope it reboots fine. We'll see.

All went fine. Now to install Google Earth & hope it goes as good.:)

Did it generate a dmp file that you can upload?
  20. learninmypc TechSpot Guru Posts: 3,030   +100

It did but it quickly disappeared. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper.
I've always thought if you delete a program properly, it'll do a clean install next time. When I reinstalled it, same layers were checked.
I'll try to see if I can get the pop up dmp thing again.
Not the dmp thing, but this
