Symantec Corporate Anti-virus security hole discovered

Scary but true, a recently discovered flaw in Symantec's Corporate anti-virus can allow total system compromise if exploited. This week, Symantec confirmed the exploit, originally discovered by eEye Digital Security, a firm that commonly finds exploits in popular software. While desktop users are going to be largely unaffected as the corporate and desktop suites are separate, many businesses rely on Symantec's anti-virus to protect their workstations, and now many of them are vulnerable. However, since most businesses keep workstations firewalled or on private local networks, the scope of this vulnerability should be fairly limited. Nevertheless, Symantec says they are working to provide a patch as soon as possible.

    It was only a couple of months ago that an exploit was discovered that could infect a machine using Norton AV from an email - where you didn't even have to open it. Just having it sitting there was enough!There's software with holes, and then there's software with holes. This is niether. It's software that might as well be a back door trojan, allowing full system compromise with no user interaction.
