Scary but true, a recently discovered flaw in Symantec's Corporate anti-virus can allow total system compromise
if exploited. This week, Symantec confirmed the exploit, originally discovered by eEye Digital Security, a firm that commonly finds exploits in popular software. While desktop users are going to be largely unaffected as the corporate and desktop suites are separate, many businesses rely on Symantec's anti-virus to protect their workstations, and now many of them are vulnerable. However, since most businesses keep workstations firewalled or on private local networks, the scope of this vulnerability should be fairly limited. Nevertheless, Symantec says they are working to provide a patch as soon as possible.
