Mozilla officially releases Firefox 4 Beta 1

Mozilla has officially released the first of what will be many betas for Firefox 4. The organization published the Firefox 4 Beta 1 candidate build just last week, so if you are already running that version, this probably won't bring any significant changes. Anyone running the current stable build (3.6.6) is in for a surprise, though. Here are some of Firefox 4's highlights:

  • New Add-Ons Manager: gives you more space to manage your Add-Ons, Themes and Plugins. Customizing your browser has never been easier!
  • HD Video: Watch hardware-accelerated, super-smooth, HD-quality HTML5 video on YouTube using the new WebM format.
  • Privacy improvements: Mozilla always puts privacy first, and this latest beta fixes flaws in some Web standards that could expose your browser history.
  • Crash Protection: Experience uninterrupted browsing (now available on all platforms) – when a plugin crashes or freezes, you can resume browsing by simply refreshing the page.
  • Performance: We know that performance is important. In this version, we focused on improving responsiveness at start-up and during page loads. This is just the beginning for performance improvements in Firefox 4.

For a more in-depth rundown of the latest build, have a look at the online release notes – or just download it now and see the changes firsthand. Oh, and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments. Like us, we know many of you are pulling for Firefox 4's success, because things just haven't been right performance-wise since version 3.5.

  1. Who cares if they ripoff things as long as it gets better. The design looks like it has been taken from Opera but I only think that's a good thing that they the Firefox team takes the good things from other browsers and implement it in theirs.

  2. Ok, ok...here we go. A lot of arguments about who ripped what off of who...here's my reply:

WHO THE F*&% CARES!?!? If it works, use it. End of story. So many complaints "oh, Microsoft ripped this off of Apple...oh, this company ripped this design off of this company" WHO THE F*&% CARES!?!? If it works, use it. End of f*&%ing story! Stop b*tching ya bunch of whiny pu$$ies! Give the customer what they want. If people want something that's used in another web browser, the smart thing to do is use that same design. I'm half and half on what I like about firefox and what I like about Chrome and what I like about Opera...NOW I GET ALL THREE OF THOSE DESIGNS IN ONE BROWSER! So that makes me one happy camper!

People need to stop being such whiny little snots and enjoy what's in front of them. People are so (*&@#^%@#&^% picky about everything these days. CHILL OUT people! Stop complaining about everything and enjoy what's in front of you. Sheesh.

And now I step down from my soap box :P

  3. I've download the beta version. Its seems to be faster than google chrome and safari 5. Keep it up Firefox.

  4. Staff

I was pleasantly surprised by this beta. I switched to Chrome since FF version 3.5 and learned to live without a couple of add-ons... I just didn't want to put up with Firefox's sluggishness so it was a fair trade-off. But Mozilla seems to be doing some good progress with Firefox 4 here.

  5. Last night Hotmail launched sweep function. Therefore I couldn't open my important emails with firefox 3.6, firefox beta 1 and the latest version of IE. I was searching for solutions. Then it was opera 10.6 which save my time. It is great. And the opera mini 5 for mobile is also one of the best browser for mobiles.
