    The "Like" button on "Facebook" has become associated with certain "malvertising" exploits. I'm not certain whether I read that here, or in PC World Magazine.

    In any event, there should be nothing to fear here at Techspot, since we have a battery of malware removal experts, always at the ready to, "volunteer" for its removal, (gratis, of course).

    For myself, I already have a fairly new, quite serviceable laptop, and I do not wish to prostitute myself, or appear as a hypocrite by opting into a contest predicated on anything to do with the Facebook social networking site.

    Therefore, without regret, I insist you do NOT include me in this giveaway..

    On a lighter not, I never win anything anyway, so opting in would most likely be a pointless excercize in futility

    Well yes, I suppose that I could have. But that would have deprived others of valuable, (and truthful), information. Sort of a "wikileaks" type of conundrum, now isn't it?

    As the famous quote goes... "You have got to be in it, to stand a chance of winning it"

    This is the sort of drivel the state lottery commission uses to pick people's pockets. I think the most appropriate response to that, "famous quote" is this "famous quote, "a fool and his money are soon parted company".

    And if the quote is so, ""famous", you should cite the originator. (Credit where credit's due, and all that). Besides, inquiring minds want to know. Oh well, no harm, no foul I suppose, it was probably some overpaid drone from a Madison Avenue ad agency.

    I also believe that I was fairly explicit, when I explained I didn't want it. In fairness, I thought I showed a great deal of restraint, by not explaining what I thought would be a better use for it.

    I'm trying to refine my writing style to a "kinder, gentler, captaincranky". How am I doing so far?

    Please refer to this PC world magazine article; [link] Paragraph 8 refers to security exploits attached to the "Facebook "Like" function.

    So, a comment that you consider "superflous", or "I shouldn't have bothered with", could possibly have relevance now that TS has attached itself to Facebook.

    Granted experienced forum members may not fall for any of this nonsense, (social engineering), but the nincompoops, transients, and "guests" that pass through here, may not fare as well. That said, I claim that including that info, in this thread, is pertinent. Perhaps not to accessing this function from within TS, but from the "Like" button's use in other venues.

    I actually am still quite sarcastic, but modesty prevents me from assessing myself as funny. Sarcasm is a sport that is judged solely on artistic merit, and as such, it also depends on the mood of those judging it, as well as their potential emotion frailty.

    As far as contests go; Seagate turned me off to them forever, when they announced they were going to give away 3 crummy HDDs, in celebration of their sales of 1.5 >> BILLION << drives. And yet, there were pages and pages of honey coated, smarny, posts, suggesting that this was largesse, and posters tripping over one another to get to the Seagate website. I found the whole concept rather offensive. Who knows, maybe Seagate was just being, "sarcastic" with that contest, and I took it the wrong way.

    In any case, I bought a WD "Caviar Black" 1TB $60.00 @ Best Buy Black Friday, and passed on a Seagate Barracuda for $50.00 @ MIcrocenter, the same day.
