According to Chiphell, the GTX 580 will feature 512 CUDA cores, most likely arranged in 16 SMs of 32 SP each. The shader clocked will be at 1544MHz while the core clock will be at 772MHz. The GTX580 also has 1536MB/384bit of GDDR5 memory, with the memory frequency set to 4008MHz, memory bandwidth up to 192.4GB/sec, and texture fill rate at 49.4billion/sec. The net result is an expected performance jump of 20 percent over the GTX 480.
Two pictures (above) of the company's forthcoming flagship product, based on the codenamed GF110 GPU, have supposedly emerged on PCinlife. It's hard to verify whether these images are legitimate, but the graphics card certainly does not look like anything that is currently available from the company or its partners. The quality of the pictures suggests that they were taken from an official presentation by the company. Two DVI-I outputs as well as an HDMI connector are visible, and the cooling system is sizeable.

hmm is there any reason other than power consumption to upgrade from the GTX 280,I have a 19 wide screen monitor (1440 x 900 resolution). Can anyone suggest a graphically intensive game that will bring my setup to its knee's.
I believe anyone on using the gtx 280/285 or above does not need a new card for at least 2 years.Feel the same way with AMD's 5870.

I really would love some more DX11 games. Especially ones that could take advantage of some hardcore tessellation. Is there even a game that really uses tessellation to its fullest at this point? I know a couple of benchmarks do.

Serious question, but whatever happened to the 3xx series of Nvidia GeForce cards? And the 1xx? They went from 9xxx to 2xx to 4xx and now to 5xx...??
And damn, Nvidia and ATi are releasing new lines at a ridiculously fast rate...

If this card delivers the performance that its specs indicate, along with improved efficiency that is at least on par with their gtx 460, then nvidia definitely has a competitor here. Assuming that is the case, then all they have to do is price it right. Then more price wars for us, which we haven't had in about a year.

Yes I realized how the resolution and size of the screen affect performance.Does it not get difficult playing on such huge screens? you must been using a pretty sweet mouse with a high dpi setting.
If money is not an issue for some ppl and they would like to play on really big screens, say 42" why not just get the Tesla M2070
then they would be sweet for a really long time.The world is riddled with consumerism.

The tesla m2070 is for a totally different kind of computing. DPI setting are usually popular for fps games, otherwise windows mouse settings and adjustments are adequate. I could see a 280 being enough for anything below 24" of monitor to play around on and while we love our really high settings everyone still looks forward to an upgrade. No matter how small.

This is getting exciting, should be interesting if other 5xx series cards are coming up right behind the GTX 580.

This isn't really the 5xx series its just an update to the 480. They are naming it the 580 to market it against AMD's 6000 series.

Yay more competition from Nvidia. With AMD releasing the 6900 series next month I was beginning to get worried for competition's sake. I think I will be getting a 6870 though myself.

exactly.. anyway nvidia is ahead only in software department right now. physix ,cuda and not to forget most of the games are optimized for nvidia

This is just a GTX480 with everything turned on that was originally supposed to be there but it is probably going to be early 2011 before we see any of them and once again amd will still have a duel card out over nvidia and have the single card performance crown. I think just grab a 6870 and call it good till the 7000 series cards come out then upgrade.
