Apple Mac OS X Lion: A Preview of What's to Come

Steve Jobs revealed few details about Mac OS X 10.7 Lion at the "Back to the Mac" gathering on Apple's Cupertino campus late last year. But most recently the company began seeding a preview of the operating system to its developer program members, giving us a chance to see where OS X is headed before it becomes available to the general public this summer.

Between the iOS-like features we saw back in October and what we are seeing now, it's clear Apple has drawn a lot of inspiration from its popular iPhone and iPad devices, making significant changes to OS X and adding features that are focused on simplifying the overall experience for both new and longtime Mac users.

Considering that OS X's last major release, Snow Leopard, was not focused on new end-user features, Mac OS X Lion appears to be a more significant release in terms of functionality, user interface and workflow improvements. We've compiled a list with several of the changes and new features disclosed so far. Read on for a quick tour of what's new.

  1. The good news is it can come with a quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, Radeon HD 5770 and a 27" screen for $2500 ... bargain
Your opinion of what is "good news" and mine, seem very divergent.

Unless of course you were being sarcastic.

  2. Professional users with sense and money do like I do:

Buy Macbook Pro and install Windows 7 on it.

It is truly the best hardware and design all around. I consider Apple OS on it an extra screw that I just throw away.

    No hard feelings.

  3. Has anyone noticed that apple doesn't sell os x Lion in the Apple Stores? You can only acquire it through the App Store. And what if you don't want to give them your credit card (including the security code) information? Then you will have to stay with your old, unstable operating system in their box.

But it's good for the environment.
