Benchmarks: Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 2
We used Just Cause 2's built-in benchmark tool, choosing the most demanding of three tests called "Concrete Jungle". Fraps was used to record the minimum frame rates and monitor the benchmark tool's coherence. The best in-game visual settings were selected with 8xAA/16xAF.
The GeForce GTX 590 averaged just 45fps at 2560x1600 when testing with Just Cause 2 making it 7% slower than the Radeon HD 6990. It also clocked in at 78% faster than the HD 6970, 50% faster than the HD 5970, and only 45% faster than the GeForce GTX 580.
Mass Effect 2
We relied on Fraps to measure performance on Mass Effect 2. We recorded 60 seconds of gameplay from the level "Lazarus Research Station" and used maximum visual quality settings with 4xAA/16xAF.
The GTX 590 was 5% faster than the Radeon HD 6990 when testing with Mass Effect 2 at 2560x1600 with an average of 102fps. Meanwhile, it outpaced the HD 6970 by 65%, the HD 5970 by 26%, and the GTX 580 by 55%.
