Although I have had a lot of good things to say about the
game, Dungeon Siege II isn't flawless, and does have its
negative aspects. A common complaint you may hear is that
it’s simply too easy! After spending many hours
playing the game and attacking a variety of monsters in
different formations, I found that it was easy to roll
through caves or forests with a minimal amount of potions
because a lot of the monsters (even those at higher levels)
didn't inflict enough damage. Much to my
disappointment, players are required to stay in the
mercenary difficulty level (easiest) until the game has been
completed.
There are a lot of quests to be completed in Dungeon Siege
II (some required and others are optional). Although this
would regularly be a good thing, some of the quests end up
being tedious up to the point where I would walk away
because I got bored. Players should expect to invest around
40-60 hours playing in the mercenary mode to complete the
game.
Another flaw worth a mention is the limited amount of party
members that players can have at one time. I was
disappointed to find that I could only have 4 party members
in the mercenary mode. Ideally, I wanted to have one
member of each class and at least one pet at all times.
Final Thoughts
Gas Powered Games and Microsoft have worked together to
release a fairly impressive game. Even though the game does
have a few problems that may stop some of you from enjoying
it, it is still a blast to play.
A lot of the mundane issues from the original Dungeon Siege
have been fixed; I certainly believe fans of the original
game will be satisfied with the sequel. A good tip for those
wanting to complete the game is to learn how to use the
incantation shrines that you will commonly stumble upon
during your quests. There are quite a few incantations that
you can learn that will give you temporary boosts to help
you and your party.
