Audio
Even though I haven’t had
any major complaints with the audio of NFS games, there are
some real racing fanatics that never really liked how engine
sound was represented in the game, this time however each one
of the car engine sounds have been recorded so you know what
to expect.
Apart from that, the style of
the music during races hasn’t changed much; this is damn
good in my opinion, as I’ve always liked how music
complemented the thrilling in-game action. 3D Sound support is
present and works quite well, tried it out with an SBLive and
a Diamond MX400 card.
Gameplay
Here we come down to the more
important stuff. PU following the tradition isn’t a pure
arcade or simulation game; I would say it falls right between
the two categories.
That doesn’t mean however
that physics haven’t been improved because actually that
might be the biggest change in the game.
You have various types of play
to choose from: single race, multiplayer, factory driver and
evolution mode. Factory driver is something new in the series,
here you will become a test driver for Porsche however in
order to get accepted you will have to pass some tests, at
first it was kind of boring but it got much better when you
were asked for more difficult things to do, it’s all based
on your ability and the time you need to complete certain
tasks, for sure this will also help to get used to the cars
and improve your skills.

Although the High Stakes mode
is gone, now we have Evolution, which as you can imagine
consists in going through the whole Porsche history, you start
with a limited amount of money to get a car and then as you
win races and time passes you will earn more money and get
better and newer cars, you can also buy parts and upgrades for
all of them and depending on how you are going you can also
get into bonus races to win Race Class cars or more money.
