Audio
The
audio in the game is quite good, although somewhat repetitive due to the fact
that characters only have one phrase to say whenever you try talk to them
(Conversations are carried out via text messages). Rather disturbingly one of
the French women on one of the islands sounds like she is voiced by a man,
although in the game I've not been able to determine whether or not
"she" has a visible Adams apple ;).
The
background noises are all fairly suited to the game; Ranging from the chatter in the taverns to the
sounds of the ocean while you’re at sea, & its nice to hear the noise your
walking/running make changes depending on the material you are walking on, be it the echoey
stony floor of the taverns or the wooden floors of the Governors office.
Weapons
noises are all quite good also, nothing seems too over-powering & the
explosions are very nice sounding indeed, along with the noises of sails tearing
or your ships hull being hit by cannon fire. It all sounds just
"right". It's a shame the game doesn't offer any real 3D Sound API
support. It would have been nice to have an accurate audio placement of weapon
fire & such, or adding other atmospheric effects.
The music in Sea Dogs is done by the Russian Symphonic Orchestra, as you can guess it’s quite
lovely to listen to as a result. There’s only 1 problem with this however, it
seems a bit too over-dramatic a lot of the time to be suitable in the game. That
said it’s great to listen to with any Media Player you might have installed.
If you do buy this game the game music (MP3’s) can be located in the SeaDogs\RESOURCE\MUSIC
folder.
Overall
the Audio in quite good & there's not really anything to
fault as such, bar the repetitive nature of the phrases you'll
hear.
