But something that really inmerge you in the game is that the story line is followed by some short scripts between levels and also videos between levels which were commonly used have been replaced by cut-scenes made with the same graphics and engine of the game.
Shogo MAD is based on the typical Japanese anime like humans and huge robots a la Mechwarrior, which after all add some variety to gameplay.
There are two types of levels and weapons in Shogo, in both modes you´ve a different set of weapons to choose from and there are 20 in total. The on-foot levels in which you carry the common pistols, shotgun and rocket launcher and some other cool stuff like fast-firing machine gun or the Voodoo doll (actually it´s a doll featuring the Monolith game hero Claw) and when you´re into an MCA you´ve a totally different set of weapons including
lasers, bombs or some other huge weapons to kill in masses, is important to say also that in both modes of play you´ve got a rifle with a Zoom mode available, I really enjoyed killing from a considerable distance or doing some Critical Hits.
Now, will you need a monster machine to run Shogo?
....no way!, I could play Shogo over 30fps on a K6 200 and a Voodoo1 card at 512x384 and with the details turned off, which still looked good, be sure that in a P2-300 with a Voodoo2, TNT or G200 this game will fly with everything turned on and maybe even at 800x600
The graphics in Shogo are excellent, not expect nothing better than Unreal but you´ll be pleased seeing this game running nicely even on your old PC. After all Shogo is the first game to show that D3D is worthy and it does a good job in all aspects. You´ll be impressed by the weapon effects and I´m sure you´ll want to fire again and again to get more of those eye-candy effects. Blood splatters look great and make the enviroment a bit more
realistic when they cover the walls and if you stay looking at it you´ll see that after some time the blood will dissapear progressively. In general everything looks better than in Quake2, water effects, ground textures and how sky looks is impressive thanks to the LithTech engine. A software rendering mode is also available but you won´t like playing at 5fps in 640x480 resolution and 320x240 looks horrible but after all.... who doesn´t have a 3D card now that fassst
3D cards are selling for as low as $99 or just decent ones at $50 !!!
