When Sierra first announced Viper Racing and some screenshots were available online, I was very thrilled about this game, also this game was supposed to be second to none with it´s advanced damage system so that you could see damage on cars but now that Viper Racing has been released and I´ve already played it for a while all I can say is that the wait was not worth and this is
nothing special when compared with truly good games like Need for Speed III.
Viper Racing has got 3 modes of play: Quick Race, Career, and Multiplayer and there are 2 easy tracks, 3 medium tracks, and 3 hard tracks. As the name of the game indicates it, the only car available is the Dodge Viper, at least you´re able to paint it so that there is some variety.
The graphics of Viper Racing is the best thing of the game, remember... good graphics doesn´t mean it´s a good game, poor gameplay in this case. Although the races´ environments are boring and the trees look awful, the graphics are nice, cars look sharp and have got transparent windows, in general they look much like a real Viper, reflections are just ok, nothing special since all racing games are using this feature now.
Particles look cartoonish and they´re very blurry while other things in the environment like mountains or water are just decent looking while in other games like NFS3 they look terrific... in the other hand, deformation in cars look very realistic and cool, this is a feature other racing games doesn´t have.
3Dfx Glide and D3D APIs are supported, you´ll enjoy of very high frame-rates (60+ fps) on high-end systems but in low-end ones frame-rated won´t even reach the 30´s, in exactly the same system I could play NFS3 smoothly but not in Viper. Resolutions range from 512x384 to 1024x768.
