Legend knew that
Epic had something good on their hands with the Unreal engine. I
followed Unreal very closely and even went to the Unreal sites almost
on a daily basis to see what was new with the game and the engine.
To my surprise
another game was being developed using the Unreal engine and it was to
be a very large game indeed. With Legend using the Unreal engine, they
did not have to worry about building on the engine aspect to the game.
They could focus their development on the gameplay and graphics and
leave the engine enhancements up to Epic.
The Wheel of Time is
not supposed to be looked at like some of the other “shoot em up”
games. The Wheel of Time is 3D action with a whole lot of strategy.
Some of you may have heard of the book with the same name. The Wheel
of Time is based on Robert Jordan’s hugely successful novel series.
Robert Jordan’s books are very large and include a very detailed
story. A story so detailed that making a game out of it would be very
simple and would be able to convey the true aspects to the Wheel of
Time.
Story
The story is where
The Wheel of Time sets itself apart from the rest of the crown. While
Half-Life may have also had a very good story to back it up, it did
not have the story already wrote and made into highly successful
novels.
If you are
unfamiliar with The Wheel of Time, getting use to the game is made
easy by the intro sequence that sets the story in place. You don’t
have to know anything about the story in order to understand the game.
For those who have read the books, The Wheel of Time conveys the story
into a detailed graphical adventure
.
I have not read the
book but a couple of my friends of mine have and they were very
excited when I told them that a game based on the novel was in
development process.
They were even more
excited when I told them it would use the Unreal engine. These people
could care less about the action game Unreal, but they knew the engine
was really good. The story can make people excited at even the idea of
a game being made about it.
The
story behind the game takes place before the first book in the series.
In the Age of Legends, you unknowingly released a powerful being known
as the Dark One into the world. He was sealed away, but the seal was
broken. A long time later, four different forces uncovered the seals
and have their own plans with it. The single player aspect allows you
to play as Elaine. She is the one that must take back one of the seals
stolen from her.
