Scenery
Select
World,
then Scenery
Library
(If
you are in full screen mode you may need to press the ALT
key first).

Areas
list.
This section controls – Scenery areas to be loaded &
in what order they get loaded. You can disable the
loading of certain scenery areas by Unticking them. Tick
them to enable the loading of certain scenery areas.
Using
the Move up & Move down button you may
adjust the priority of scenery. The higher the
priority of a scenery area the quicker it gets loaded
(highest priority gets loaded first & so on). I’d
recommend increasing the priority of the FS2000……
files as these will be needed almost anywhere you fly.
Edit
area.
Using this option you can choose to run a scenery area from
the hard drive, or to cache it. Caching a scenery
area (assuming it is normally run from the hard drive) can
improve performance when flying in that area. Ignore
this setting if you completely installed Flight Simulator
2000 to your hard drive.
Cache
size. This sets the cache size
(MB’s) for the scenery library. The cache size is the
amount of hard drive space the scenery library uses for
caching CD scenery data. A large cache file (50MB or
greater) can improve performance for those who didn’t do a
full installation of Flight Simulator 2000 (Data can be read
off the hard drive much faster than from the CD). If however
you performed a complete installation of Flight Simulator
2000 then set this to the lowest allowable setting, which is
10 MB.
Empty
cache on exit.
Tick this setting to have the contents of the Cache
folder deleted upon closing Flight Simulator 2000. This will
free up hard drive space, although CD data will need to be
re-cached the next time you load Flight Simulator 2000. You
should leave this setting Unticked if you intend to
fly in the same areas the next time you load up (So no time
is wasted re-caching them).
Weather
Select
World,
then Weather
(If
you are in full screen mode you may need to press the ALT
key first).

Clouds.
The further this slider bar is to the right the worse the
weather will be & vice versa. Obviously worse weather
can adversely affect frame rate (More to render, e.g.
lightning). Depending on your system your should set this to
Clear for optimal performance, although certain
adventures may be intended to be played under such adverse
weather conditions.
Precipitation.
This slider can only be adjusted if Clouds is set to
at least Few. This sets the strength of rain in
Flight Simulator 2000. Much like the Cloud setting,
this also affects performance, heavy rain will reduce
performance (Rain drops must be rendered). Set this to None
for optimal performance, although certain adventures are
intended to be played under such adverse weather conditions.
Visibility.
This setting controls the maximum viewable distance in
Flight Simulator 2000. Beyond this distance fogging is used
to hide terrain/objects. This setting directly affects
performance. I’d recommend setting this to 20 or 30mi
which gives a nice trade-off between performance &
visibility, although set this lower if necessary. When set
to Unlimited visibility you may control the viewable
distance with the Maximum unlimited visibility
setting.
Wing
strength/direction.
Ignore this setting, it won’t affect frame rate.
Although it will affect how easy/smooth your plane is to
control, depending on what direction the wind is blowing.
Real-world
weather.
Select this option to download the latest real-world weather
data provided by Jeppesen.
This will enable you to fly using the latest global
weather conditions. Obviously this feature isn’t intended
for those who will be disabling weather effects to
improve performance. NOTE – You must be connected to the
Internet to take advantage of this feature.
Clear
all weather.
Select this setting to restore the weather settings to the
default.
