Now select the Programs tab.

HTML editor/E-mail/Newsgroups/Internet
call/Calendar/Contact list. These are used
to select the default Application you wish to be used
for different Internet related activities. Using the
drop-down menus select the program you wish to use for a
given task, e.g. for E-mail you may want to use
Microsoft Outlook (If installed) instead of Outlook
Express and so on.
Reset Web Settings.
Clicking this button, in the event of having installed
another browser, will reset your homepage and search engine
options to the default values and will prompt you as
to whether Internet Explorer is to be the default browser.
Now select the Manage Add-ons button.

This displays a list of add-ons (Browser extensions, ActiveX
Controls, etc.) that have been installed for IE6. These are
installed in various ways, e.g. the ICQ Lite browser
extension is added with the installation of ICQ Lite. Use
the Enable or Disable buttons to respectively
enable or disable a selected\ add-on as
necessary. In my case I’ve disabled the ICQ Lite and
Windows Messenger browser extensions as I don’t require
them. Similarly, use the Update ActiveX button to
check for newer versions of installed ActiveX controls.
Note – If you are using IE6 on a different OS you can
achieve similar functionality using the registry. Click on
Start, Run, type in regedit and hit
Ok. Open the following registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions] and expand the folder. You should
find several subfolders visible, as follows;

To remove the application link from the Tools menu,
simply delete the folder which contains the offending link,
e.g. to remove the ICQ Lite link in my Tools menu, I would
simply need to delete the highlighted folder in the image
above.
While accessing the C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
folder will allow you to select right click on and
Update or Remove ActiveX controls.
Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the
default browser.
Assuming IE6 is the only browser on your system it should
already be the default browser so you should leave this
Unselected. The only time you should select
this setting is if you have/had another browser installed &
want to check IE6 is set as the default.
