Well for me:
CPU; AMD(AM2) X2 5000+ = $450
RAM; 2x1GB G.Skill DDR2 800 = $190 (got it while it was super cheap)
Motherboard; M2N32-SLI Deluxe W/E = $320
Graphics card; GeForce 7600GT = $190
PSU; 500Watt = $20 (Bought it from a mate of mine)
PC Case; Looks awesome:D = $110
Drives;
- Sony DVD R/RW = $110
- Seagate SATA 250GB = $130
- Seagate SATA 320GB = $120 (got it a few months after 250GB, prices came down)

Total = $1520 (all from computer fair, took a little over 2 years to buy everything)

To by from the shops = $2500+ (At the time I got it)

To buy now from computer fair = <$900

To buy from shops = <$2000

I'm proud to have my computer up and running cause I'm rather the impatient type of person. And I like performance, so its a massive tossup between the HD3870 and 8800GT for my next graphics card. It most likely will be the HD3870 cause I have strong feeling the 8800GT won't be in stock at the computer fair and if it is, it would be well over $300. I've been saving up quite a while, so I can't wait till computer fair next Sunday.

Back on topic; Crysis is more of a next generation game, you will have to wait till the G90's come out or the R700's, and even those will struggle to play Crysis at the highest IQ settings. You would be much better off just running the game at only high IQ settings, and perhaps put a few settings at medium like shadows, and water etc.

if you've got a lot of guts and the money to back it up, try overclocking as well though there is no guarentee that it will give you the desired performance. it will make a difference, but be wary of overheating, so if you dont have a good cooling system ignore overclocking

the trouble with everything is that it depreciates over time .. especially components for computers.
youve just gotta have the guts to say right f*** it im buying it now and i dont care that tomorrow it'll cost less
if we all waited for stuff to depreciate then we would never buy anything!

with regards to gfx cards .. imo nvidia will churn out the 9 series next year so id personally wait for the 8 series to drop in price .. sounds like im giong back on what i have already said but once the 9 series comes out the 8 series with have a considerable drop in price so imo its worth the wait.
plus i wanna know what the new GTA needs to run properly :D

just out of interest what do people think of the EVGA cards? was tempted for one of their 8800 cards

EVGA is a good brand.

The reason why I'm desperate to buy a new graphics card is because I want to play the latest games and my 7600GT, although it can, struggles like hell. All the time it reminds me of my old 6200, which I spent with for a year playing games at lowest quality.
