9800GTX vs 9600gt?

Is a 9800gtx better than a 9600gt, if so am I going to notice it? I was thinking of getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339<that gpu to replace a PNY 9600gt.

the 9800 gtx is basically an overclocked 8800 gtx but it is a lot better than the 9600 gt but make sure your psu is up to the task.

might i instead suggest this xfx 4850 its the same performance as the 9800 gtx + and is cheaper and u register it and get a lifetime warranty

If you are having a look at 9800GTX card, the 4850 proposed by klepto is very good value for money.

However, when looking at something which is priced around 130$+/- I'll advise to rethink for a moment, and go for 5770 instead. In most cases it will be faster than 9800 GTX anyway and about on par with or better than 4850.

Honestly though, with the shipping on the XFX wouldn't it be better to get the 9800gtx. (I'd be saving like $1-2 or so)

Exactly the same experience here. Asus 9800GTX SLI'd with Asus 9800GTX+, working great! ... 'plus' card registered as 8800GT for the first couple of boots. Reloaded nForce drivers and checked SLI bridge to get 'found new hardware' notice ... nTune shows cards running at a clock frequency of 740Mhz (which is the 'plus' speed).

The GeForce 9600GT has 1 GB of GDDR3, the GeForce 9800GTX only has 512MB of GDDR3. But the 9600GT only has 64 Stream Processors vs 128 Stream Processors for the 9800GTX. Does having 2X the number of Stream Processors make the 9800GTX the superior video card? On Newegg after rebate the 9800GTX is only $10 more than the 9600GT.

well i can't argue with XFX's DL warranty so if you ask me getting the 9800GTX is a good buy but imho the 4850 is the better card. if it's that important to save a couple bucks than just go with the GTX, not that much of a performance difference (varies with application).

and to answer the question about the vRAM... you're only going to notice a difference with 1GB at higher resolutions for the most part. stream processors tie in with the actual GPU and boost performance with complex pixel shaders. basically, the more you have, the better.

9800gtx is a lot better than 9600gt.Infact 9800gt is only superior than 9600gt.9800gtx has more stream processors and has better g92 gpu. Talking about memory 512mb is enough though 1gb in 9600gt might not be fully utilized unless you play games at res. like 1900x1200 and 2560x1600..you may find 9800gtx at any store costing only 10-20$ more than 9600gt..
