A spike in deleted comments?

If I may weigh in here I hink yRaz might be getting his threads mixed up.

I never chatted with you in this thread...
https://www.techspot.com/community/...am-is-soldered-in-and-not-upgradeable.203361/

Rather it was this thread.
https://www.techspot.com/community/...lower-cost-imac-now-starting-at-1-099.203330/

Hope that helps solve the mystery.

Edit: Ohh I see Cliffy has already solved the mystery, I feel slow now ;)

I did, indeed, get my posts mixed up. However, there were other threads where my posts, and others, had disappeared. I have seen enough peoples comments disappear to warrant looking into. If it was simply me getting these threads mixed up in a one-off incident, I wouldn't have made this thread.

Since this appears to be so frequent, can you give us any examples of threads where this has happened?

I would be also interested to hear from other members that have suffered the same fate? If this is a software bug, it's a very serious one, however Xenforo is a fully supported and well documented suite and I haven't heard this happening.

In my humble observation, it isn't happening.

Any post of mine which I've found "missing", or if you prefer, "deleted", has been absent for reasons known to me. I'm also fully aware, that in online forums, as well as game shows and promotional contests, "decision of the judges in final". (Whether or not I agree with the decision).

As Mr. @yRaz thoughtfully pointed out to me, "most of your posts are questionable". So what we have here is ostensibly someone who is not a "judge" acting as one.

That notwithstanding, it has been proven that the thread which precipitated this, "disappearing posts" thread, was never participated in by the TS.

So, if I were the one who started this thread, and found out I had been incorrect, I would have fallen on my sword, begged for forgiveness, and not try to save face by continuing the diatribe.

I've been through a similar topic to this before. At one point a member had a couple of his posts pulled, and started a thread denouncing me as being, "favored", and he was being picked on.

"He never gets his posts pulled, and you keep pulling mine". Which sounds like some sort of retributive, manufactured logic, spawned in a 5th grade school yard..

No doubt, the cap' will take that as a compliment ;)
And indeed I did. After all, it took a great amount thought and effort to create the desired level of outrage and question-ability in the submitted material.

And who doesn't want to be noticed fore their efforts? I am still beaming with pride, going on a day later. But, I won't rest on these laurels, no sirree!..............(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

*shouting out from underneath my rock* The rest of the Internet is not as fun!
But childish as it may sound, if @cliffordcooley can have his rock to shout from under, I reserve the right to shout from underneath my bridge! The End.

BTW, the participants of this thread are surely aware, that posts of people you're "ignoring", (the "ignoree"),won't be visible in a thread visited by the "ignorer". Just want to touch all the bases.

Well as I'm sure that the mix up in threads certainly discredits most of my argument I will let well enough alone until I can get something solid to show the staff. This wasn't a one time thing I've seen, I wouldn't have made a thread and wasted the staffs time if it was. In the mean time humor me and keep an eye out for missing posts.

@captaincranky, I do look forward to your questionable posts, don't mistake my comment for taking offense.

In all honesty, I haven't experienced the problem you're describing. That could be due to that fact I visit less threads than you. Look, I'm not "troll-tably" unreasonable.

There's also, "the email goes out before the comment gets pulled": factor.

So, if you're logging in and only getting your info from the notification area, instead of going through you're email account, you may not see the posts that have been pulled, (with good reason). There's a certain, "no need to log in for this one, it'll be gone by the time I get there", compensation factor you can use before clicking on the "view this thread" button.

Just to follow up regarding the example threads that yRaz posted above, in the first example no posts are shown deleted.

In the second example one post was deleted but was clearly a flaming post. Coincidentally, I deleted four posts from that thread this afternoon but several hours after yRaz posted his example so those don't really count. None of them were from yRaz.

In the third example no posts were shown deleted.

In the Apple one, no posts were deleted by a moderator.

In the Internet traffic one, one post was deleted, the poster was 'Guest'.

In the video game collection one, no posts were deleted by a moderator.

Edit - ah I should have scrolled down because mailpup already covered it. Oh well, now you have the same story from 2 different mods on those threads.

I have retorted "captaincranky" a few times now, but the replies seem to get deleted, or don't show up for some other reason. Any idea why?

From what I can see, those were indeed removed by a moderator (not lost).
Ah Julio, why didn't I think of complaining about the posts of mine which were pulled in the same thread...............? (pause).......(wait for it)......Because I'm used to it, and I don't care.:)

Our "newcomer in training" has 54 messages, about 4 of which were pulled. When you come right down to it, that's a worse batting average than mine.

And @FLWrd , if you have something you absolutely, positively, think you can't live without telling me, send me a PM, so I can delete that too....:D

Ok, then just delete my account, please. There's no point in posting if it gets deleted just because they don't suit captain cranky. If you look at the post, you'll see that I quoted a dictionary entry for cranky (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cranky). Cranky apparently didn't like it, and complained about the use of the word "queer". And the rest you deleted for good measure as well.

A forum that considers the "sensitivities" of a troll pur sang of more weight than a dictionary isn't for me.

Actually, I thought it was kind of funny. In fact, I found some of the adjectives somewhat flattering. Save for the fact I was trying to highlight the importance of maintaining political correctness. Then too, I've been a grownup for quite a while now, and I'm quite capable of inserting double entendre and/or innuendo into a sentence. I don't read minds though, and your given meaning of "queer", was well, "unclear".

As I said, (which was removed also), you can't transfer everything you find on the internet, to the forum verbatim. You can't post porn links, you can't post slurs, you can't call names. That's going to be the same anywhere you go. Even if the term "queer" is in the dictionary, "the dictionary made me do it", doesn't grant refuge. In point of fact, in an unabridged dictionary you can find every profanity, racial epithet, pejorative, and what not. None of which will be allowed in this forum. So it's childish and duplicitous of you to claim exemption, "because it's in the dictionary".

You must be terribly concerned about having the last word though, the way you're whining and threatening to quit, since you didn't have it.

My posts were pulled as well. Don't you think there were a few things left I had to say? That's the way it goes here. The mods tell you, and me as well, when it's time to shut our yaps.

You posted "captaincranky" defending his ego since 1954". Funny I suppose. But, how big, fragile, and tender, is your ego, when you cry, and threaten to quit, when you don't get the last word?

When all is said and done, this post of yours I'm quoting, is nothing more than a tantrum, "I'm quitting", "cancel my account", "you like cranky better than me", "I'm holding my breath until I get my way", ad nauseum. Sounds pretty sleazy and juvenile on playback, does it not?

I'll argue and trade barbs to the death, but it simply isn't allowed, and for good reason.

Situations like this are what the "Ignore List" is for. You won't be the first person to put me on their ignore list, and I'm damned sure you won't be the last..

What is your problem, Cranky? That message wasn't meant for you, just like your original reply was to a message not meant for you. Do you feel such a deep need to tell your opinion about everything to everyone? You're like the little boy in the school yard, yelling at the rest: "Come and give it to me then, eh!", knowing it will never happen. If this forum gives you all the room to showcase your obnoxiousness, good for you, but I'm out.

You haven't figured it out yet? Cranky the want-a-be mod! He tells on his self every time he ask others if that is what they think they are, while at a the same time acting the same way. Although I fear I may fit in this category myself. Always commenting when opinions don't match my own. I will say one thing for cranky, he is no idi-ot. He just trolls too much for my liking. But perhaps I fit that bill as well, I don't know.

Well Cliff, first off, I was only busting this kids chops about a post of his which was worded a tad pompously. (Not the posts that were pulled).

As for being a "wannbe moderator", you certainly fit that bill, (as do I). In fact, you tried to moderate me on several occasions. The only problem with that is sometimes we both get caught.at it.;)

Where we diverge is this, I don't want the responsibility of moderating, but I think your lust for it, may be a longing unrequited.

Me moderating in this forum would be a level of hypocrisy even I would be uncomfortable with. Besides, the title, "Techspot Addict", serves me nicely. It absolves me from most responsibility, and grants me a moderate degree of freedom

Normally, (and as much as I'm able), I try to provide the laugh track for these forums.

And yeah, you're quite opinionated, as are we both.

As far as this, "will the real troll please stand up" issue goes, I sometimes think a retort we all learned in grade school, attaches nicely, "yeah well, It takes one to know one". Or possibly something we learned in an early science class could apply, "like poles repel".

But really Cliff, I'm sitting watching the news, and up pops a story how a few, "Native Americans", are demanding, (under threat of legal action), that a local high school must change the name of its football team, and all references to the term, "redskin", be removed from its news letter.

Well, I'm absolutely am of the opinion that "political correctness" is the tail which now wags a dog named the "United States of America". But what the heck, I feel if want to give that tail a yank, I'm allowed. (To not "wag along", would be gosh darned unpatriotic).

Back to the original issue. I've had hundreds of posts pulled, and you don't hear me whining when it happens. I'm, (AFAIK), on your ignore list. That doesn't upset me in the least!

The most interesting part of this whole affair, is @FLWrd knows how to jump right in and play the "troll card". Witness his attack when I "misspelled" the model of an audio interface. (I think that's still up, but I'm typed out and don't feel like linking it).

So, if junior wants to get all torqued out of shape and quit because he didn't get the last word, I wish him a happy landing somewhere else. If my emotional make up and ego were really as fragile as @FLWrd claims, I'd have been out of here years ago. Consider part of my "title" then, as "someone who weeds out the sick and the lame".

You both need to read my sig! Don't say I didn't warn ya!:)

And since one of parties to this discussion thinks the dictionary is an "immunity idol", I'd advise he brush up on his Latin.
