AI could wipe out most white-collar jobs within 12 months, Microsoft AI chief warns

I would be worried if AI didn’t constantly make mistakes.

It is only a productivity multiplier for someone that knows the area well to catch BS quickly and tell it to try again.

I can see laying off the worst 20% and having the remaining 80% + AI accomplishing the same work. Eliminating everyone is hilariously far away.

I work at a financial institution. AI has already replaced about a third of our workforce, and management keeps going forward with plans to remove another third in the next year. So…, yeah.
Excellent.
Who will buy things?
If I'm unemployed, and so is the next guy and so on, what will happen? Soylent Green? We'll eat each other?!

You aren't wrong, but we let the "Job creator myth" take hold in the 80s, and you see the results. Hence why modern economists are confused why the economy is doing well but people aren't; it's almost as if there's a disconnect between what is good for corporations and what is good for everyone else...nah, that's impossible.
The whole capitalism to the edge Reaganomics sh!t is just that. Sh!t.
Tax the greedy f..ks.

I voted 'YES' but follow that poll up with a 'YES' to a mass rehiring 😂 they'll back track on some job categories.

To me AI is like predictive code assist in an IDE - long before AI - and it was getting much better but it's just algorithms and expression matching. It builds or adds the DB overtime.

Consider that autocorrect on my phone F's things up more than it fixes - and if they can't get that right...

I've found Huawei had better auto correct than Motorola 🤦

Well - AI will replace jobs, as AI agents are evolving quickly. Not necessarily as mass layoffs everywhere..but it’s bound to happen. If you remove the word AI and replace it with «Automation» - it’s a natural evolution. AI is a new form of automation, and in many ways it’s unreliable now - but that will change as AI language models keep improving.

Maybe his job should go when he inevitably fails to deliver on this prediction and his AI is still mainly used to generate pictures of cats and 99% of usage is on the free tier.

If this is true, then AI is a bad thing because it will cause mass unemployment and make a tiny set of people very rich.
If this is false, then AI is a bad thing because it's just a massive waste of the Earths resources and doesn't work.
Take your pick...

AI will eventually replace everybody at some point but before that happens I’m more worried about a fascist building a robot army, one million strong.
Remember, humanity’s progress required and still requires the collective efforts of many smart people. Humanity’s catastrophes only required one, or a handful of a-h0les.

Get real, Suleyman. What a d*ck-head. If you took your head out of your a*s occasionally, you just MIGHT see which way the wind is a-blowing.....and it ain't in YOUR direction.

Still, ya can't blame the guy. He probably earns more a year than most of us will in a lifetime....

The bad results of massive AI adoption have already shown themselves. The shortages of computer chips and memory and resulting rise in prices have already become a problem.

OK for those employed building the massive new data centers but then its back to the breadlines when they're finished.
