At this rate, consumers should better expect that the seller/manufacture will always deviate and lie from their initial sales proposition, one way or another, in the future. No benefit of the doubt can be given at all.

Also expect that the government will do nothing to help protect the customers from such predatory behaviors.

I keep My Samsung TV offline. At night, My phone is in the other room. You'll say I'm crazy, I will say there is "flat earth" crazy, and there is "1984 technology is here" crazy.
I never enabled Wi-Fi on my 55" Samsung TV, had a cable box with just a HDMI cable going to it, Cut the cable and just using an android box for occasional TV plus an outside TV antenna! My other TVs are dumb, one with a roku stick!!

The problem I've come to realize about 1984 logic, is less that "the device is spying on you" and more that "other people are using the device to spy on you". It would be all well and good if the spyware was manageable, but that's kind of impossible when it's the person next door.

If 99% of the neighborhood uses Ring doorbell cameras and you don't, guess who is more impacted?
Plus the fact that your smart electric meter talks to your neighbors on it way back to the office!😲🙄

Amazon has been storing all recordings in cloud for a while now. it even records if you have any device 'mute' enabled.

Only news here is that Amazon made it public.
True, to me these "Alexa" type devices are pure laziness, If I want to look up something I get on the computer and use "Duck Duck Go"

I also have no idea how these people connect even their light bulbs to the internet, absolute madness to me.
Yes, even their microwave ovens, Refrigerators and washing machines!😲Next thing will be internet connected toilets!😲 In my city people with door bell cameras are giving the police department permission to connect to their door bell cameras for neighborhood surveillance!😱

Yes, it's amazing.

But your cellphone is the best spy device of all. Everything, and I mean everything you do with your phone is being recorded.
Its worse with phones because the whole system underneath them is hackable enough to hijack your phone number away from the phone and insert surveillance and patch it back to the phone without them knowing anything happened.

I started a smart home project a long time ago, but
I am not going to use Alexa or google because they use a remote server to run the devices which I rather program a server and do it all locally and not having to rely on external servers that can get compromised.

Right - because all of the consumption of personal data during the Biden administration never happened that is the baseline for all of this. Oh wait, that is because you supported the surveillance then because it fed into the corrupt spying that you agreed with.

The TDS is too strong if you think this is just now happening.

They already detain visa holders for derogatory texts and social media posts. Bzzt. Try again.

How does a discussion, about Amazon's data collection, devolve into a political feud, over which U.S. American Presidential administration f*cked over the populace more with its data collection efforts?

Everyone in here, talking about Trump vs Biden, seems to forget that the PATRIOT ACT—which is the thing that makes mass data collection legal—is legislation from the 2000s "War on Terror" era, implemented by a Republican President, okay? Have I sufficiently pissed off both sides, yet?

If you’re gonna fight over policy, pick your battles better. Stay on topic.

You need 250 posts, and have to be a moderator, before you get to pretend to tell others
how to do things.
Otherwise, only a self-important prick would try that, and I'm sure you aren't one of those.

Biden administration was going after US CITIZENS - bzzt, you try again. I don't care if they detain visa holders that post things supporting terrorism.
Really?! I hadn't heard that. How did they do that? I would love to read up on it.

I was requested to stop discussing politics, which if you recall, was MY original request, so I will do so. I don't care to drag it into every conversation, like an autistic waving his **** at random homeless people. I just want to stay up to date with tech information.

If the options are "deal with a bunch of maladjusted adults, throwing temper tantrums" or "don't participate", I'm bowing out. I've got better things to do, with my time.

It's kind of depressing, isn't it? You ask yourself, "where are the adults, in the room?"...and then it dawns on you, "oh, yeah. We are the adults in the room. Well...sh*t!"
