AMC estimates it needs $750 million to remain afloat in 2021

It's that whole "bigger is better" marketing tactic. Maybe for some things, but not for all of them.

I certainly remember those three tube projection TVs. Never owned one, though, nor did I ever view one in real life.

Having tried my hand at film based amateur astrophotography many years ago, when digital first came on the scene, there was a colleague of mine who used to tease me because, at the time, I told him I would stick with film. The resolution on 25 speed (ISO) is incredible. Even in this day and age, 25 speed (ISO) film has got even the highest megapixel sensors beat by far. Now, however, I would use a digital sensor of some sort, and stack the images. Ah some day, I fantasize about getting back to it especially since it can be automated and I would no longer have to sit in 10F weather and guide manually.

Very true. Lots of older technology is superior to modern technology.

No "real" movies coming out of Hollywood...lock downs and you can bet (USA) after January, there will be MORE. Horse and buggies disappeared, just like many things as technology evolved. Unless this all stops by summer, the movie industry will dissolve. Streaming will be the norm.

Is it AMD that owns Odeon in the UK?
Odeon I think are my least preferred cinema chain the UK, Cineworld did a fantastic job refurbishing all their theatres over the last 5 years, then it's Picturehouse (also Cineworld) which is more upmarket, shows more indie and world films as well as chains, comfy seats but also do afternoon tea - not for me really but it has one in a convenient location and it's kind of cosy. Then it's Showcase and Vue - 'can't complain' tier, they're OK, Vue always has horrendous queues but think that's because the one I go to is in one of the busiest shopping centres in London, and Showcase is an hour away by bus. Odeon... we just never clicked, I'm sorry. The iMax one near Waterloo is awesome but I think overrated.

I don't really like supporting chains and have no sense of brand loyalty, but Cineworld have legitimately tried to innovate on the cinema experience.
