AMD admits it doesn't have an RTX 4090 competitor

Nvidia has the most powerful card on the market with the RTX 4090, and now the upcoming RTX 4090Ti. They were criticized by AMD fanboys for the cost, power, and power consumption of the 4090 card. Yet, these same fanboys are now disappointed that AMD didn’t make an equivalent card. Ridiculous. The truth is they can’t. They don’t have the technical capability nor the equivalent technology like Ray Tracing and DLSS3!

The RTX 4090 is a very necessary card with never before seen GPU power. Gaming at 4K and 8K is now a reality. If you don’t have to have the best, you can buy AMD.
I'm going to have a good hearty laugh in six months when you're posting "12VHP connector burned my house down, AMA"

You can stop with the nonsense. The 4090 has sold out completely at $1,600! Often scalped and going for $2,500-$3,000! There is no equal, or competition for it. In six months the RTX 4090 will be launched and you be here whining again about AMD not having a competitive card.

this is one of the silliest comments I've ever read. AMD is doing more to push 8k Gaming than nVidia is while only being a few percentage points behind in performance. They're doing this at nearly half the performance per watt that and about 2/3rds the price.
You haven’t seen a single benchmark giving that nonsense any credibility! 8k gaming isn’t mainstream, nor is DP 2.1! Your comments are silly!

Today a GPU that draw more than 200W for me it's not an option at current energy bills. Even at 200W I still underclock and/or power limit. But to say a 350W card is environment friendly. My whole system now draws max 280-300W. Maybe the EU will ban pc parts that have more than 100W power draw.

I can only hope they start banning PC components just so I can laugh.

They already banned light bulbs with filament long ago pushing LED as new light source. All electronic devices have big stickers with power class. All electronic devices include a recycle tax. This should came as no surprise after EU leaders recommend us to reduce 1-2 degree the heat this winter. In my country there is also a monthly 300KWh electric limit for a good price. If you go for more the price is higher.

Later edit: the limit is now 255KWh not 300KWh anymore :(

Luckily I live in a first world country with plenty of electricity (other than California).

Where are the 8K monitors? The 4090 at 350W, 999 dollars and with DP 2.1 would be an interesting card.

It's good advertising to have the fastest GPU on the planet. Nvidia understands that hence they have a huge cult-like following.

Most people should be satisfied with mid-range at 1440p. You don't need 200 FPS in every game, contrary to what some influencers might have you believe.

Completely agree. Halo products are important. That’s why both AMD and Intel are always pushing for the “fastest gaming CPU”. AMD don’t have a halo product this gen and barely had one last gen.

None of us NEED a halo product, but they create the impression of a company being the market leader and the premium option. This impression trickles down to cheaper cards.

So the 4090 is a great marketing tool for selling other cards.

You’re one of these PC gamers better off using a next gen console! LOL! There are many GPU’s that draw more than 200W! Then you must add in the CPU. Buy a console!

Consoles use subscriptions $10-12 per month , the low power used is not enough to justify the whole system cost.
There are some options for me right now like 3060ti - 200w, 3070 - 220w and 6700xt - 230w. All can be undervolted/power limited. But I don' t want to buy 2 years old tech. Waiting for x60 x70 sku form both vendors.
Luckily I live in a first world country with plenty of electricity (other than California).
Plenty and cheap for now.

No they don’t, that’s a lie. A console subscription costs as much as a game, or less! You also do not need to buy a subscription at all! They can game at 4k too! You violated your 200w maximum power draw for the GPU as well.

Undervolt and/or power limit will bring down power below 200W.
Current 2060 has a TDP of 175W but I limited it to 73% power = 125W.
About same performance and low power.
I had an Xbox X and all games with online multiplayer required an XBOX online subscription. So you pay the game and XBOX online.
And there is the Game pass that include some games and online.

I too have an Xbox Series X! After initial set up, you don’t have to play online, period! If you “choose” to play online, Xbox Game Pass is $59 for the year! That price is less than WOW, Ubisoft+, Humble Choice, etc. There are tiers and you can pay more. EA is about $5 per month. As far as power limiting goes, you lose performance, and only maybe save a few cents on your electric bill. It wasted effort for little reward, if any.

They are creating standards that the market will use to help push the future of 8k and display manufacturers are already onboard

I'm not looking for 4090 performance. I can't justify the price and feel the power usage is almost immoral in todays climate. I'd be content with 3070 performance and extactic with 3080 performance if it was at a price I can afford.

Of course we’re going to go there. But it’s not viable right now, or in 2023! So it’s not even a decent marketing tool right now. You’re talking about something that you can’t even use right now. There isn’t that much difference between DP 2.0 and DP 2.1. Samsung’s new Neo G9 is 8k, and DP 2.0 OR DP 2.1 would be good there. Who cares though?

I don't buy into 8k displays. You'd need a monster screen area to actually see the difference. I game on a 32" display 2k. I can barely see a difference in 4k half meter away. Yes, I checked my eyesight. I understand 4k for 40"+, but 8k? Unless you game from the couch.
