Given Intel's antics in the past two or so decades, I was unaware that Intel knew anything but the wrong direction.
You're joking, right? Intel has been the factually superior choice in every conceivable way for the last two decades. If you believe otherwise you're some delusional fanboy. I still wouldn't trust AMD fully to this day. Their software and firmware still makes Intel's look like the picture of stable. If AMD can get that in order (doubtful since they never have) they will truly move to the top position in the market, assuming Intel doesn't pull their head out of their asses and doesn't give up their ill-advised foray into the discreet GPU market.
