AMD's refreshed RX 6000 series cards briefly listed at ridiculous prices in Europe

In brief: The GPU market has been improving in terms of both pricing and availability over the past few months, but we've yet to see anything but the lowest-end models approaching MSRP. Meanwhile, a new wave of RDNA 2 cards from AMD might arrive next month at prices that don't look encouraging at all.

Last week, a few early retailer listings for Gigabyte's Aorus and Gaming series variants of the RX 6950 XT revealed some rather absurd prices for the upcoming refresh of AMD's RDNA 2 flagship. While that isn't a huge surprise given this is supposed to be a top-end GPU with the fastest GDDR6 available, the rest of the refreshed lineup may also carry high price tags.

According to more recent listings (spotted by @momomo_us) at French retailer PC21.fr and Italian retailer Breakpoint.it, Sapphire will have seven RDNA 2 refreshed graphics cards, with the Toxic RX 6950 XT LE Gaming OC variant being the most expensive of the bunch at €3,134 ($3,388). The cheapest model is the Nitro+ RX 6950 XT Gaming OC model which is listed at €2,961 ($3,199). For reference, the Nitro+ RX 6900 XT is listed at €1,501 ($1,622).

Interestingly, even the mainstream RX 6650 XT is listed at a relatively high price of €822 ($888), which would make it 28 percent more expensive than the regular RX 6600 XT. The cheapest mid-range RX 6750 XT carries a price tag of €1,332 ($1,438), making the RX 6700 XT look almost like a bargain at €931 ($1,005).

It goes without saying that you should take these prices with a healthy dose of salt, since they may well be placeholders for the actual listings. AMD is expected to announce the new cards in May, so it won't be long before we'll see if the premium over the standard RX 6000 series is real.

GPU prices appear to be trending down every month, and we can only hope the refreshed RDNA 2 cards will become more affordable once Intel launches its desktop Arc GPUs.

The high end RDNA3 should launch by the end of the year. But that still leaves AMD with around 6 months of no new releases while Nvidia released several by now. This should allow them to move some more stock until the next gen launches.

These are just good old RDNA2 cards with higher TDP and perhaps faster memory. Basically from AMD's side, these are efforthless releases. Just tell manufacturers to put more clocks and/or different memory.

No affect on RDNA3 at all.

Who recalls the 3090ti rumored pricing before launch?
Now we have the 3080ti as low as $1200 , 3080 12 gig at $959 , the 6900xt at $1049 and 6800xt at $899 all restocked, available and mostly with free shipping.

6900XT to 6950XT is going to be a joke. Identical chip with slightly faster memory is not going to make any difference and if they raise price on top, completely pointless. Some 6900XT models even has 18 Gbps memory already

RTX 4000 series coming in Q3... AMD better fix their GPU pricings or Nvidia and Intel will eat them up

Meanwhile AMD is gimping their low and mid-end stuff (64-128 bit busses and PCIe x8 limitation). Pointless really. This is AMDs prime segment. 9 out of 10 AMD cards sold are low to mid-end cards.

AMDs most popular GPU in the last 5-6 years are RX 480/470 and RX 580/570.

Intel is coming fast for the low to mid-end market; AMDs PRIME SEGMENT.

If Intel goes with agressive pricing, it is not going to look well for AMD GPUs...

I believe Nvidias and now AMDs new strategy is to charge an even higher premium for any percentage gain over Intel to make up the difference lost in that market. Is this the competition we were all hoping for? Unfortunately this is what happens with a duopoly. Things will only improve when Intel competes in high end as well.

AMD won't sell any GPUs if they are priced on par with Nvidia and Nvidia has GPUs in every segment too. Most people that buy mid-end or high-end just buy Nvidia over AMD.

AMD lost dGPU marketshare every quarter since Ampere release. They are below 15% now and soon Intel launch Arc and if they have aggressive pricing - might eat 5% fast, meaning AMD is sub 10% dGPU marketshare.

If AMD keeps this up, they will lose the dGPU market completely.

AMDs prime GPU segment is, and always have been, the lower end markets. Their high end offerings never sold well.

Remember Radeon VII? EoL after less than 6 months

Best selling AMD GPUs in the last 5-6 years are all low-end sub 200 dollar GPUs like RX 580/570/480/470

AMD had the chance to grab alot of marketshare in the last 2 years but blew it. All their products were on the TSMC 7nm node, which means they had to prioritize CPUs and APUs over GPUs, won back some CPU marketshare but lost GPU marketshare.
