Apple says it was right to remove "dinosaur" headphone jack from the iPhone 7

The problem, I'd say, isn't in removing the 3.5mm jack. It can go away. The problem is replacing it with Lightning, a proprietary port. Had they replaced it with USB C, then it would be uncomfortable for a while but a worthwhile growing pain. Giving Apple control over all audio coming out of the phone... not good.

Geez. The hate is strong to apple articles as if you own them. They included an adapter so what is the fuzz. Wireless is the future btw with portable sound system.

I hope you guys would have the same comments once Android cellphones adopts usb-c for headphones.

The issue is you now have to keep the adapter on you at all times and people can't charge their phones and listen to music at the same time. And no, "go out and buy bluetooth earphones" is not a legit response. People should not HAVE to do this. I shouldn't have to go out and buy new earphones.

I keep seeing the "would you argue this with Android" thing coming up. Typical iSheep only seeing what they want. Do none of you remember when Samsung and Google got rid of SD card ports? Android users were ticked off and they STILL ARE! And then remember when Samsung and Google with the Nexus 4 axed the removable battery? Android users were ticked off and STILL ARE! A lot of loyal followers jumped ship and moved to other brands of phones. But that's none of my business *sips tea* You iSheep have invalid arguments. Nice try, though.

Easy you may have a heart attack. If this radical change does not matter to you then move on. If they say that they have to this because a change is needed when designing then so be it. Move on and find another that suits you but I bet you will still bash apple articles. alright here we go.

"The issue is you now have to keep the adapter on you at all times"
Do you really use a lot of headphones in a day, you must be crazy to bring a lot of headphones when you go outside. If you are just in your room this does not really a nuisance. There is a drawback but not really a nuisance for ordinary people only for those complicated people who think complicated things. Move on. Nice try, though.

Lol. Why do you have to buy a new wireless headset. Did they block bluetooth headphones? All sound receivers, soundbars, are going to wireless route - bluetooth, nfc, airplay. This is the future man. It is very convenient so that you can do your selfie with your dog while listening in your room without wires. If you still dont want it move on get another device. Nice try, though.

and people can't charge their phones and listen to music at the same time.
Do really people charge and use the headphone most of the time? Listening to music in my cellphone does not even use a lot of power. Why not charge it after you listen to your music. Why not just invest in a dedicated portable music device. Nice try, though.

Call me isheep anything you want but change is needed for technology to move on. I dont see myself in a huge advantage if ever I'll get the new iphone. people whine a lot in internet even if they don't own one. This is a bold move from the same company who do this everytime yet I dont see it backfired so huge (remember html5, lightning connector) If you dont like the change, there are a lot of options but I predict high end Android cellphones will go with this route in the future. :)

Or you can buy the upcoming LG V20 which has a 3.5mm jack and a Quad DAC for improved sound quality (according to a recent TechSpot article).

I can't wait to get more details on this!!
Dear TechSpot, when you do a review, please also include the Note 4 in the comparisons :)

Selective memory is a blessing: you've forgotten when Apple Maps became the standard in iOS 6.

The difference in this case is that you cannot add hardware to the phone.

Plenty of people going on about this already... lol

Whether it was right or wrong, whether there is an advantage or not... it's highly disliked because we would all have to buy something else to make it work. Our old stuff wont work... change is hard, it's even harder when you have to toss all your old **** that might even have sentimental value, as silly as that sounds. Ya ya, there's adapters... Gives you one extra possible thing to break, too.

Well, I've never liked Apple products. I've always thought their devices were built well. I disliked having to use iTunes for almost everything. So, well... still happy to be with android... lol

Im surprised that they dont put one more port (instead of the removed audio) that require their new adapter
a lot of sales missed

It'll matter less as Apple will push innovation on USB-C headphones by doing this. It's an unfortunate part of trying to get rid of old interfaces. The peripheral vendors won't throw a lot of resources at making these USB-C devices and at mainstream pricing until major players basically go all in on the new tech like Apple has.

#1 the Adapter still lets you use your old headphones. This is really a non issue. When you really think about it, you have a slight extension to your headphones using the lightning-to-3.5mm adapter. Cord length has ALWAYS been a problem for me.

#2 I use Wireless Bluetooth LG TONE PRO headphones. I don't need the 3.5mm jack anymore.

#3 If I did want to use my 3.5mm jack it would be with my PS VITA headphones which are easily the best, least-expensive headphone buds on the market. I recommend them to others and they love them as well.

And I'd only use them on an Airplane - since my workout sessions are easier with the Tone Pro.

Apple is forcing the industry into a new direction. They will eliminate the analog devices entirely given time.

Yes this is obviously going to mean more revenue for apple...

Apple basically ELIMINATED the CD-ROM/ DVD ROM and pushed us towards Digital Downloads

Now look - their Macbooks are HIGHLY desired and the NUMBER 1 travel/productivity computer.

Their newest line of portable computers are amazingly thin, light and have batteries that last for 9-10 hours easy.

Nowhere near as bulky as a computer with a HDD, ROM-drive and CPU fans...

this is just what they do.

Either you're in it - or you can stick to exploding Note 7.

You can use cable headphones while charging the wireless ones ;)

Not if you are charging your phone. They really should have had two ports or an proper adapter that allows for charging and listening at the same time.

"physical keyboards on phones — do you miss the physical keyboards on your phone?"
Yes, very much so.

If someone released a modern Android handset with a slide out landscape* hardware keyboard, I'd buy it instantly.

*Blackberry are so close, but bizarrely only offer portrait ones.

Don't buy a BB Passport or Priv, both are rubbish. I can't understand how they managed to screw up so badly the design of physical keyboard despite having some of the best ones in their previous devices. I would rather type on a cactus.

Current bluetooth standard doesn't allow for high nitrate transfers meaning your stuck at what is effectively a 128 nitrate mp3. That and the 2.4ghz spectrum is so flooded that if you're in a crowded area the potential for a list signal is very high. Still, you're an iSheep so Apple can do no wrong in your book even if it means paying more for an inferior product.

Nothing wrong with moving forward with technology, however, doing it in one generation with a proprietary connector is a bad move.

The best move would be to have a USB type C connector and a 3.5mm jack and wireless phone charging on this generation phone and bundle it with a USB type C headphone.

Then, next years model you drop the 3.5mm jack. All problems resolved (except apple don't like using industry standard ports!).

There's just so much to hate Apple about, the lack of a headphone jack is just icing on the cake.

@Bigtruckseries Wow, Apple having to defend its choices, Apple not releasing sales numbers, that's really something.

Right now those mutts in Cupertino are likely truing to find a reliable medium to get in touch with Steve Jobs in the great beyond.

YES!. Yes I ****ing do! Immediate tactile feedback is a blessing, not a curse. being able to text without taking my work gloves off and seeing the screen without a mass of smudged oily fingerprints is a fantastic thing that I never thought I'd miss.

As I keep saying, if 3.5mm was so bad it would have been replaced by the audiophile industry many years ago. Not to mention the male end of a USBc or thunderbolt connector are much easier to break than 3.5mm.
We like it because we've become so used to it and it works, and works well. But from where I'm sitting it sure looks like it's on it's way out... on mobile devices at least. It will probably stick around on other types of audio equipment for many years to come.

Maybe adapters is where they hope to make up revenue for those falling tablet and phone sales

Saying the 3.5mm is on it's way out is like saying we don't need wheels anymore. 3.5mm has been around for as long as it has because it has significant advantages over other tech.
