What just happened? Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have just hosted a reveal event for the next game in the Battlefield series. If you missed the reveal event that just wrapped up, here's everything you need to know.

DICE and EA said earlier this month that the reveal would take place on June 9 at 7 a.m. Pacific, although those that tuned in at that time were met with a one-hour countdown timer. Once that expired, viewers were treated to a five-minute cinematic trailer for Battlefield 2042 set to a remix of “Kickstart My Heart” by 2WEI.

The action-packed teaser ends with a giant tornado consuming a downtown warzone.

The near-future war game will accommodate up to 128 players across massive-scale maps on Xbox X / S, PlayStation 5 and PC (Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will support 64 players). Notably, Battlefield 2042 will be a multiplayer-only game with no single-player campaign.

Battlefield 2042 will feature at least three distinct gameplay experiences. All-out warfare will have two modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, and is most similar to the classic Battlefield multiplayer experience. Hazard Mode is a new high-stakes mode featuring squad-based play. The third experience won’t be announced until July 22.

Battlefield 2042 is available to pre-order on your platform of choice starting at $59.99. A gameplay reveal trailer is set to drop on June 13 with the game itself scheduled to launch on October 22.

Looks good but I doubt I’ll pick it up at release. Cheaper deal later or via ea play on Xbox series x eventually. It will still be fun

Lessons learned in more than 40 years of life. Played some PC Games since I was 16. But given the current state of industry:
1. Never pre-order. Never ever. I mean the last one I fell for was Cyberpunk 2077. Great game. Horribly optimized. Never again.
2. Free games with micro transactions? Ok, I'm in. At least for trying. Paid games with MTX? mnope. Skins, cosmetics, XP, in-game whatever currency: nope. So no Diablo IV, no CoD, nothing from Activison. I'm ok with CS:Go, no time for DotA, still playing Death Stranding, Cyberpunk, Starcraft 2. I have never paid for WoW, nor will I pay for any subscription-based video game.
3. After the royal eff up with SJW-pandering Battlefield V, the StarWars Battlefront II and so on, I trust EA Games less than a thief in my house.

Finally a newer BF game I'd actually want to play. Hate the old WWI & WWII style games.

Also no point in making a single player campaign for a game like this. Same goes for a COD or any other multiplayer focused game other than Halo. Just make sure there are plenty of smaller maps. I like big, but only having big maps is just dumb. That's why Bad Company 2 and BF3 worked so well.

Let's see, like COD, it's always pretty much the same game except very slightly better graphics and a different style (WW era, modern weapons, futuristic weapons). The only reason it's being made is for microtransactions.

Battlefield's best aspects were really seen in Battlefield 3 in Damavand Peak and Battlefield 4 with Seige of Shanghai.

Being able to fight vertically as well as horizontally with large-scale destruction changing the shape and scale of battles.

I will definitely buy this.

Not interested in WW1 or WW2 shooters at all.

Lets agree to disagree... BF1 was a real masterpiece. I prefer WW1 and WW2 settings because they were meaningful on a global scale and we know the stories around them. Futuristic shooters are all the same: COD Infinite Warfare = COD Advanced Warfare = COD Blackops 3 = COD Blackops 4 = BF2042

BF1 was for the casuals.
Barely any sniper bullet drop, sweetspot mechanic over headshots, random bullet deviation on automatics, garbage vehicles, pathetic weapon customization and wack maps. Only thing good were the graphics.

Almost every BF YouTuber I watched back then left BF for games like Apex, Overwatch and R6S.

I went from 2500 hours played each in BF3 and BF4 to 50 hours in BF1 and V combined.

And as you can see, BF 2042 is NOTHING like BF1, and for good reason. And I don't mean the time period.

Yeah gotta say, looking forward to this, BF:BC2, BF3 and BF4 (after a years worth of updates) were incredible, racking up hundreds of hours on each.

BF1 I played a fair bit, think I got 100 hours in or so but it just wasn't as good.
BF5 I didn't buy due to the complete lack of any historical accuracy to the point it was almost offensive. I got bought it when it was on sale and it's actually better to play than BF1 but it's still not as good as 4/3/BC2.

I really hope the gameplay reveal on Sunday shows they haven't ruined the BF formula. The specialist system has me doubting them slightly already.

I've been drinking, but I don't see any mention that BF2042 was originally release in 2006? I bought it because the Titan mode sounded like fun, but after I bought it I realized it was online-only. I don't think I ever even installed it. Even then I was too old to compete online with people with hours per day to devote to it.

BF3 was definitley my favourite game. Mostly that was because I had a great crew of online mates to pass the time with.

If I can get that again with BF2042 I'll be happy.

You are 100 years too early. It was BF 2142 :) and yes I loved that game even though the hardware I played it on struggled to keep up (just about met the minimum spec) .

Totally agree, BF1 & 2 were terrific. Played those for quite some time. Enjoyed the story also. Futuristic ones are all the same BS
