I have a motorized telescope that runs on 12volts and the rechargeable pack I made for it broke recently. It uses a lot of power and I'm often using it in the cold. The mount came with an 8 D cell pack/holster thing to power it but that never worked very well. Store D cells never powered it effectively and they died quickly. A typical night of viewing could mean I go through 16 cells, more if it's cold out.
My old pack was 12v18Ah AGM battery, I could do 2 nights of viewing off of a single charge if I had to. I am looking at going lithium but I need a band aid for the next several weeks as this is the best time of year for viewing and astrophotography
