In brief: The Biden administration reportedly wants Chinese tech companies to aid in imposing stricter export rules against Russia as a result of the latter country's invasion of Ukraine. Companies that refuse could face sanctions, but that may also complicate US-China trade relations.

Several countries in Europe started imposing additional sanctions on Russia last week in response to its invasion of Ukraine, prompting some in the semiconductor industry to look for alternative suppliers for materials and gases needed at their chip manufacturing facilities.

US companies are also facing mounting pressure to restrict access to their services from Russia, not to mention the possibility of cyberattacks on their infrastructure similar to what government institutions in Ukraine have seen over the past few days. Microsoft, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter have all taken steps to limit or remove Russian state-sponsored media messaging and advertisements on their platforms, and Netflix has refused to comply with an order to stream 20 federal TV channels starting today.

Intel, AMD, and others recently halted industrial chip sales to Russia, but it’s unclear how big of an impact this may have on a country that is mostly reliant on Asia for its infrastructure needs.

According to a Bloomberg report, the Biden administration may ask Chinese companies like Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) and Lenovo to aid in imposing export controls for American-made technology, especially in the case of Russia’s defense sector.

Chinese companies that refuse this request may be restricted from accessing American manufacturing equipment, spare parts, and technology licenses. As of writing, more than two-thirds of the chips, computers, phones, and other tech products imported by Russia come from China.

In related news, the Biden administration asked cryptocurrency exchanges from around the world to prevent Russian individuals and organizations from using them as a tool for avoiding sanctions. Major exchanges like Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance have thus far agreed to do so in the case of individuals currently targeted by economic sanctions, but they refuse to apply the same treatment to the accounts of ordinary Russian citizens.

Its even worse with China because eventually they'll copy everything you build there and undercut your original products. Nobody builds better computer tech than America, so why not do all the manufacturing at home and have much more control over who has access to the industrial and military-grade equipment? I think PRC has learnt a valuable lesson - don't mess with democracy - They now know invading Taiwan - will stop the opium to the masses - ie prosperity and material wealth - they know their power is based on a facade - Same as Putin is now learning . His most loyal special forces might kill Russian people - but the average soldier won't .Many dictators get kicked by their own - some survive to die of old age - some get to live out their life in Saudi Arabia.

Chinese are very pragmatic - even postponing executions if rich people can not make it to the hospital that day .

Plus you know those trillions of dollars China has as reserves - they don't mean nada if the west chooses so . China needs The USA it's largest export country . The USA needs China for cheap products , to export pollution , to get away with exploitation .
My take China will try to appease both sides to gain as much as it can - but it will dump Russia if it has to - Russia is only the 11th biggest economy in the world .

If you have not realised, the nations you mentioned are very close to one another. I’ve not seen them stepping on each other’s toes like you often see with other nations. And therefore, I am doubtful that China will press Russia hard. In fact for Russia to oppose all Western nations by invading Ukraine, they must have a strong backing to do so, since they know if they start the war, they will get slapped with all sorts of sanctions.

Every nation has been infiltrated a long time ago and they all fake these conflicts. You'll notice that every calamity only affects negatively the peoples but never the "elite". The leaders don't work for their people but for the "elite". We're at the dawn of the new world order but for that, they have to sacrifice the western peoples. And they don't hide it, as in the Great Reset from the world economic forum where they state that in 2030 the US won't be a world power anymore. The U.S. are collapsing from the inside as, if it would come from the outside, people would react. That's why every move is made to increase debt and to severe the US from the rest of the world. More or less the same can be said about Europe but I think they are no longer a threat for the elites.

Ignore the big picture for a second. Did Bloomberg make up the SMIC example or is that what Washington actually thinking about? SMIC itself is on the entity list already and I don't recall seeing any exception granted for licenses anyway. What else is left for export control that can be tightened?
