Bill Gates predicts there will be very few poor countries by 2035

When eliminating poor countries means that your citizens have a gross national income per capita of over $1,035 per year I'm don't think "not poor" is a very well chosen descriptor.

Those Linux users who bash Microsoft are miserable *****s who are just jealous that Windows is a successful platform.

I disagree with you on that, Linux system just start it and look how good they are.

I hope you are not insinuating that Linux is newly developed. I personally know Linux has been around for a good portion of Windows lifespan.

I predict that the u.s.a. will become a poor nation by 2035.
with its penchant for unnecessary wars it cannot sustain financially, the u.s.a. will fall.....[ ].......
Nah, we'll just raise the national debt ceiling, then print some more money...:p

I very much doubt there will be no countries that will be very poor. In fact there will likely be more due to the PNAC requirement of on-going wars and proxy wars, amerikkkan imperial expansion and the privately owned Federal Reserve and the privately owned International Monetary Fund supplying fiat money for exorbitant rates.

I'm disappointed that there's not a single graph or pie chart in this discussion thread. How can anyone squawk about gov't finances and economic policy without a graphic war?

As for Mr. Gates... As much as I respect his generosity and optimism, nobody can accurately predict things that far out. It's hard enough to predict the immediate future in matters with far fewer variables. Keep up the good work, but leave the long-term forecasts & predictions for sales people.

It's always the "Amerikkkans", isn't it? We provide a convenient excuse for the third world's failures.

Why don't you go join a group of Somali pirates? That would be a more active approach, in lieu of whining online at Techspot.

Besides, you can't be that poor, you have internet don't you? Although, I would be in favor of your mom and dad setting the parental controls up a couple of notches.

He damn sure couldn't do it 20 years ago, why should we believe he can do it now? lol

Alright. I set myself up for that one.

Stated again, less sloppily: Long-term predictions are statistically unreliable. Thus, I don't put much stock into them. A past track record only create the illusion of a crystal ball.

Aside from your personal swipes, my comments on PNAC, amerikkan policy, the Federal Reserve and IMF warrant your further investigations, none of these are directly attributable to the American people, but very much the domain of amerikkkan politicians, their handlers and their sponsors. You would do well to further research who, what and for whom the US government operates, because from my perspective it does not seem to be for the American people that it supposedly represents.

Perhaps not. But when you come right down to it, throughout the entire course of history, no government has ever really had the commoner's interests at heart.

You could say the same for every crap hole oil sheik, every petty despot such as Saddam Hussein, or Muammar Gaddafi, right down to every lazy BS artist shaman who ever bilked a tribe's people out of their possessions, claiming to have salvation or nonexistent cures for disease.

Like I said, it's easy for some pseudo intellectual malcontent such as yourself, to blame all the world's problems on the USA. And while you're at it, spare me your half a** attempts at clever spellings of my country's name.

A FWIW, the music I listen to, for decades has included social consciousness, high minded moral lectures, and anti government sentiment. What has any of it accomplished you ask? Some of it's got a good beat and you can dance to it.:p

No, they aren't jealous. What makes you think they even care? Linux blows BUT with Steam taking the lead that may change

People use Windows primarily for the productivity software that depends on Windows. It's going to take more than Steam to change Linux's fortune.

Sure but it is a great place to start. And it is a warm welcome to the Linux family that they have been waiting a decade to receive. Just wait and see if Steam is successful. And if so you won't have to worry about finding an application as everyone (except for maybe MS/Apple) will be releasing a Linux version.

In 2035 there will be no poor countries, but there will be no rich countries as well. Because there will be no countries. And no people. Maybe even no planet!

Right on Guestikins! I'm with you on this wholeheartedly. I still think those poor dinosaurs got a really raw deal, like with that asteroid hit and all.
They should still be running this hominid infested s***hole to this day...!

There are too many short sighted people posting in this thread. Seems like there is no chance of this one ever being productive.

The topic wasn't particularly interesting, nor productive. Why wouldn't you expect the thread to follow suit? Bill Gates' current path, while perhaps commendable, is a bit idiosyncratic, to say the least. It certainly doesn't lend hm any street cred as being prescient.

Bill Gates predicting what the world will be like more than 20 years from now, is pretty ludicrous.

I'm sure he'll tell you what he'd like to see out the windows of his ivory tower, but for the rest of us, how about a reality check in the here and now.

I have to admit though, I'm having myself a good chuckle, picturing Bill Gates dressed in drag as a gypsy fortune teller.
