Black screened pavilion that beeps

So I need some help my dvpavilion8000 will boot the HP logo and I'm able to edit how the system is running but if I try to boot the os it will just give me a black screen that looks like I could enter code but everytime I touch a key a loud beep sounds and I have recently tried deleting XP off the computer and running on Linux mint which would boot but it has since not let me boot either XP or Linux
