I've read this excellent thread:

https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-5352-p-2.html

And it gives great advice on ntfs.sys errors, ...but not mine. I followed the instructions on using ntfsfix utility - I used the one in Inside Security's 'Rescue Toolkit'. It returned a readwrite error on my inner most partition (single 160gb drive). However, rebooting made my system run chkdsk - which is the furthest away it has been from the blue screen in days. Still a blue scrren.

I have the 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA in XP sp2. It won't go into afe mode, I can't acces recovery. it asks for some automated system recoery disks which I don't have. All I have is blue. I think I need to delete or rename the ntfs.sys and place a fresh ntsf.sys in there but I have no idea how. Any help would be very appreciated. I have access to a Windows Me comptuer - is there someone who can walk an ***** through using this to replace a fresh ntfs.sys on my drive.

Sorted it!! paif 4$ for these utilities http://www.bootdisk.com/ntfs.htm. These utilities have just saved all my precious work...and me from suicide. Two days ago my computer went blue - no safe mode, no recovery console - I had error 0x00000050 - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA the bluey suggested the problem was with my ntfs.sys driver. I tried everything. booting from floppy with modified setup files, I tried the excellent ntfsfix - still blue. Using the 'ntfsboot' utility I manged to run chkdsk from the dos prompt and voila! I didn't need to but you can even use it to replace the corrupted ntfs.sys.
