Boot Problem

Hello.

I know a bit about computers, so a friend asked me to have a look at his Toshiba Laptop.

It is running Windows XP Home.

The computer turns on, goes to the normal Windows XP Loading screen, then goes to black screen like it always does, then it should display the login screen, but instead it displays a blue screen with this written in white text on it.

"Stop: C000021A {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x000000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

Then after about a minute it turns itself off.

So i tried it in safe mode, does same thing.

I then inserted the Windows XP disk, it begins to load the necessary files and such, then the computer just turns off after about 2min of it loading.

I have tried several times and it does same thing, some times turns off after 1min, some times after 3min, but never stays on long enough to load the Windows XP disk so i can repair or reformat it.

At first i was thinking it was a corrupt file. But now i am thinking a virus or some bad hard ware.

What would every one's thoughts be on this.

Any help/advice will be much appreciated.

Thank You.
