Booting issue

I ahve this problem with a computer booting up every time it boots it comes up in 4 bit resolution. But before that started happening it would freeze up while multi-tasking, and I am only talking doing two things at once like being on AOL checking the mail and trying to delete them. I am running a MSI mainboard with a AMD 2600 and 512MB Ram. The 120 GB Western Digital HD is on the same Slave cable as the Cd/Dvd drive. Does this have something to do with it?

So what you are telling me is that having the two on the same cable is what is most likely causing my problem????
