This seems to be happening to a lot of people on here and I was attempting to create the necessary files when I got a blue screen of death (something to do with pwriraog.sys). I was running GMER when this happened so I was unable to get that log. I have been able to get the log from MBAM and Hijack This! if interested they are below.

The core of my problem is that all my google results redirect to random websites.
Shopica.com
internetcorkboard.com
findstuff.com

I am using chrome and XP SP3.

HERE is my MBAM log:

Welcome back to TechSpot. I'll help get these problems resolved. A few things first:

P2P or 'file sharing' Warning:
Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. I suggest that you uninstall Vuze, the Vuze Remote Toolbar and LimeWire for the following reasons:
  • As long as you are using file sharing networks and programs which are from sources that are not documented, you cannot verity that a download is legitimate.
  • Malware writers use these program to include malicious content.
  • Fie sharing is usually unmonitored and there is a danger that your private files might be accessed.
  • The 'sharing' also includes malware that the shared system has on it.
  • Files that are illegal can be spread through file sharing.
Please read the information on P2P Warning to help you better understand these dangers.

Almost all malware is causing searches to be redirected. Many thing it's a 'Google virus', but that's only because most users use Google as their search engine. Let's try and pin your source down:

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus scan HEREhttp://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
  1. Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click Start
  3. When asked, allow the Active X control to install
  4. Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notification Tray icon near the clock.
  5. Click Start
  6. Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  7. Click Scan
  8. Wait for the scan to finish
  9. Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  10. A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.
================================
Please download ComboFix from Here and save to your Desktop.

  • [1]. Do NOT rename Combofix unless instructed.
    [2].Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    [3].Close any open browsers.
    [4]. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts to run.
  • NOTE: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If it does not, restart your computer to restore your connection.
    [5]. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    [6]. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always allow.
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    [7]. A report will be generated after the scan. Please paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Note: Make sure you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix..

I will have you move or remove files based on these logs.

Try running GMER again doing one of the following:
1. Uncheck Devices> or
2. run the scan in Safe Mode.

Important! Please do not use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you, unless I direct you to. Do not use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.

ESET Log

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with my computer problems. I like that you troubleshot my signature too, hahaha. I removed it.

As for running the programs, I ran ESET and ComboFix. I went to run GMER again and my computer completely froze. Next step is to do it in safe mode but that may have to wait. I am busy, as I'm sure you are, and will not be able to get to it tonight.

As for your other concerns, I use Vuze as a Media Manager for my PS3, it seems to work better for me than Windows Media Player.

SC2000 is indeed SimCity 2000, I have since uninstalled it because it was a very old game I found that ran very unstable. The quarantine folder is to do with AdAware which is something I installed in order to combat the current problem I am having. It did find a few items and move them to quarantine.

Got a laugh out of your signature! You should probably remove the word 'hack' out of it!

Go ahead and run this to remove the entries found in the Eset scan while I set up some script to run in Combofix:
Please download OTMovit by Old Timer and save to your desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    Code:
    :Processes

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\CoolWWWSearchOleHelp.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Server\hlp.dat
    C:\Documents and Settings\Christopher\Local Settings\Temp\dwm.exe
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
===========================================
I'd like you to delete the C:\Quarantined Directory. I don't know that having that directory keeps the entries from being active in the system. If you do a scan with AdAware and it finds anything, it should be handled from within the program itself, not an outside directory.

You should also delete entries quarantined and zipped by Spybot S&D.

Please run this Custom CFScript

  • [1]. Close any open browsers.
    [2]. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    [3]. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code below into it:
Code:
File::
DirLook::
c:\documents and settings\Christopher\WINDOWS
c:\program files\UB
c:\program files\_uninstallation_info
c:\windows\Downloaded Installations
c:\program files\COMPACT
c:\windows\PIF

RegLock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}\Elevation]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}\LocalServer32]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Interface\{E3F2C3CB-5EB8-4A04-B22C-7E3B4B6AF30F}\ProxyStubClsid32]
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe
CFScriptB-4.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it will produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt . Please paste in your next reply.
============================================
You have 8 Registry entries loading for Vuze. Please understand that I recommend they be removed and the program uninstalled. If you choose not to do that, I will not be responsible for any malware or other unwanted or unsuitable files or folders that access the system through Vuze.
=============================================
This should be removed from the Trusted Zone: Trusted Zone: aol.com\free
=============================================
Download the HijackThis Installer and save to the desktop:
  1. Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  2. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  3. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
  4. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  5. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  6. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  7. Come back here to this thread and paste (Ctrl+V) the log in your next reply.

NOTE: Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Questions:
1. Are you still using this program?
c:\program files\COMPACT
2. Did you delete the Quarantine Directory and it's contents?
3. Do you understand that if you removed any entry from a log that I am not responsible for the contents?
4. Are the original problems resolved? Are there any new ones?
5. You have multiple Vuze entries loading from the registry. You have decided to keep the program. Here's why I advise removing it:
P2P or 'file sharing' Warning:
Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. I suggest that you uninstall Azureus/Vuze for the following reasons:
  • As long as you are using file sharing networks and programs which are from sources that are not documented, you cannot verity that a download is legitimate.
  • Malware writers use these program to include malicious content.
  • Fie sharing is usually unmonitored and there is a danger that your private files might be accessed.
  • The 'sharing' also includes malware that the shared system has on it.
  • Files that are illegal can be spread through file sharing.

Thanks

Yes. I have done all of these things. You have been way more than helpful and I appreciate it 100%. All the problems seem to be gone and I know the dangers of Vuze, but like I said, all I really do is use it as Media Manager for my playstation 3.

Thank you much,
