Can someone explain the new Windows to me? Win XP 64?

Well im finally building a computer and the CPU im getting is an AMD Athlon 64 3000+... I keep reading how this CPU will be able to utilize the new Windows, but cannot find any real good info on it. (Its there, but I guess I just do not understand it.)

Can someone explain the new Windows to me so the normal PC user will understand?

Is the new WinXP free? Do you have to have Home Edition or Professional Edition of Win XP to get it?

It is a version of Windows that it optimised for the new 64-bit processors. It will run faster I suppose and will be able to take advantage of the larger amount of addressable memory the 64-bit architecture offers. Feature wise it is exactly the same as your vanilla XP.
