For some reason I can not uninstall programs from my laptop. I have tried a repair install of XP but had no success.

I noticed on one post that one guy had been particularly helpful and was hoping mine would be equally as successful.

I have run HJT and attached the log file.

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Many thanks

Steve

Then Reboot!

Now: Do the TechSpot 8 steps: https://www.techspot.com/community/...lware-removal-preliminary-instructions.58138/

Skip no steps (do not install another virus scanner if you already have one, ask me before installing a Firewall).
avg

Most importantly update MalwareBytes (MBAM) and SuperAntiSpyware (SAS)!

Before you scan with either MalwareBytes or SuperAntiSpyWare do the Extra Configs below these have become most important lately

SuperAntispyware extra config

After installed double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.

Update the program definitions.

Click the Preferences button.

Then Scanning Control.

In Scanner Options make sure all boxes are checked except #3 Ignore System Restore.. are checked:

MalwareBytes extra config

After update but before running
Click settings and confirm all are Checked.

I repeat Update these 2 programs.

Run them and attach their logs.

Mike

Have done all of that, see attached logs. Could update Java (an error interuperted the installation, caused it to fail - nothing in the windows error logs) and coiuld not install the SuperAntiSpyware (same error).
many thanks
Steve

Even if you did this before do it again..

Run HJT Scan only and select and Fix all lines listed below
Any line that has (file missing) and/or (no file) at the END of the line, ONLY at the end.
------------------------------------------------------

Update then run MBAM Quick scan once more to confirm removal of what it found last run.

Then to get SAS installed...

Download the Alternate Installer: http://downloads.superantispyware.com/downloads/SAS_FREE.EXE
Then if it installs but will not run download and use this to start and run SAS :http://www.superantispyware.com/downloads/RUNSAS.EXE

Mike

I did those again as requested and have attached the log files (nothing was found). I still couldn't install SAS. I have attached the error. This occured just as the installer said it was removing temporary files. it then rolled back all of the installation and threw up the attached error.

This should run and exit!

It is a coverall and you may see a few errors related to it addressing something you do not need. This is normal ignore.

Then run CCleaner again then try to install SAS after that1

Mike

Ran the script and ran CCCleaner until nothing appeared in the search but will still not install SAS. Same error.

OK lets do something else that may fix SAS.

Download ComboFix

Get it here: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5587-combofix.html
Or here: http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe follow the prompts.

Install Recovery Console if connected to the Internet!

When finished, it will open a log.
Attach the log and a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: Do not click combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.
=========================================

Download SDFix to Desktop.

http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

On Desktop run SDdFix It will run (install) then close.

Then reboot into Safe Mode

As the computer starts up, tap the F8 key several times.

On the Boot menu Choose Safe Mode.

Click thu all the prompts to get to desktop.

At Desktop
My Computer C: drive. Double-click to open.

Look for a folder called SD Fix. Double-click to enter SD Fix.

Double-click to RunThis.bat. Type Y to begin.

SD Fix does its job.

When prompted hit the enter key to restart the computer

Your computer will reboot.

On normal restart the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then say Finished,
Hit the Enter key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

Once the desktop is up, the SDFix report will open on screen and also be saved to the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
Attach the Report.txt file to your next post.

Mike

OK now the SDFix log?

After posting the SDFix log run ComboFix again as it found issues and we need to confirm removal.

Mike

OK need to see a final combofix and hjt log.

We may be clean so how about the installer issues?

How is computer running now?

Mike

Combo fix log in previous post and hjt log attached....

Still can not install SAS. Same error. Still can't uninstall/repair my other programs either.

Very strange....

Ok you are clean enough that we can fix the installer issue.

Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF)
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#...C_and_articles
http://djlizard.net.nyud.net:8080/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file.

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here 1 at a time do the below

Flush DNS
Process idle tasks
Reinstall BITS
Reinstall Windows Firewall
Repair Permissions
Reset networking interfaces
Reset WMI/WBEM (not reinstall)

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

Reboot retest install/uninstall.

Mike

Had not file requests from DSF, and no errors. Have tried to uninstall the Bonjour app (from Apple) and returns an error 'Fatal error during installation'. Dues exactly the same with a couple of others that I tried. Sorry.

Wow. You truly are a guru. Can not install/uninstall. Not sure what you did but hey, it worked. Can't thank you enough. Saved my bacon.
Thanks a lot.
Steve

OK Steve I just hope this allows us to run install and run SAS because if not there is still something wrong.

So try the SAS and if we can get a clean log from it then we may be finished!

Mike
