Can't format CD-R with Vista?

I have recently purchased a used laptop an acer c300 tablet travelmate. I the first time i used it everything seemed to be fine until i tried to save my word document to a cd-r, then the problems started. At first it sounded like the disk drive was having problems( very loud and choppy sounding), then i calmed down and asked what i wanted to do, so clicked on save data to disk. everything was going well then it stopped and said that it was unable to format disk. the OS is vista. any ideas

Did you try another CD-R? Have you updated Vista to Service Pack 1?

For burning all those things I would recommend you to use some Burning Programs as windows ones have some problems sometimes and it can even damage you CD/DVD too sometimes.

Those are some programs you may use easily:

CDBurnerXP (Don't mind about the XP in the name it work well on Vista too and it has been updated to work on Vista.
