Can't open flash drive

I previously could open my flash drive; it appeared when I went to my computer.
Now I can't open my flash drive; it doesn't appear when I go to my computer. I went to disk management and the flash drive does not appear so I can't rename the drive.
I went to device manager and uninstalled the 3 usb root hubs and rebooted. The disk drive still did not appear when I went to my computer.
Does anybody have any additional suggestions?

This is a common problem with some brands and models when they have been dropped 18 inches or more, and there are great histories of defective ones. You acn pay to get the data off a defective drive... but the technicians and companies who do it are extremely expensive.

We see as many as 12 to 15 failed flash drives brought in to our shop every week.
