Can't stream live news

The host file is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
File name is hosts, no extension. It's just a text file.

Here are the first couple lines in mine:

# Start of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
127.0.0.1 www.007guard.com
127.0.0.1 007guard.com
127.0.0.1 008i.com

The sites following 127.0.0.1 will be blocked.

You can use notepad to open the file.

Ok,I found it. How do I use notepad to open it?

Its getting late here so I'll continue in the morning, thank you

I usually just right click on the file, then click on Open With, then pick Notepad from the list.

Right click on the etc file or ?? I'm either too tired or confused or maybe both.
I think I will wait till morning to continue. I don't want to mess anything up.

Ok, this is what I get when I right click on the Hosts file. I'm guessing I did something incorrect.

You almost had it. If you click Open, a window should pop-up and you should be able to select Notepad from there.

No, that's ok. Just do a word search for "akamai" and see if anything w/ that is listed. If so, delete those entries and save the file. If Notepad won't save over the existing file, than save it as something else. Delete or rename the original. Then rename the new file to hosts w/o extension.

Have you tried connecting to the streaming site w/ a different computer from your location? Or use your computer to connect from a different location. If your PC works from a different location then the problem lies elsewhere.

When you say do a word search,I'm assuming you mean go to Start>search & type in "akamai" (w/o the quotes) ?I'm doing that now. I'll have a friend in the building check his pc this evening if he can, otherwise,it may be noon tomorrow for a chance. BTW, thanks for your help thus far.

I mean from within Notepad. Once you have hosts opened in Notepad, use the search function (ctrl-f) to see whether the word "akamai" (you're right, w/o quotes) is there.

Yep, not a problem. I know how frustrating it is when computer or tech related matter doesn't work the way it should.

Haven't tried it but looks fairly useful.

Just out of curiosity, if you ping mfile.akamai.com, what do you get? I get between 0 - 25% packet loss. I get "connecting to media..." message now, but I figure that's because the live stream isn't up (22:25 EDT). Sorry, still no idea/suggestions yet.

I'll need instructions on how to ping it.
For unknown reasons, they didn't stream the broadcast from 5 to 6:30 pm this evening. I won't be awake for their 11pm broadcast.

Click Start, then Run. Type cmd in the box. And you'll get the command prompt. Then type ping mfile.akamai.com

You should something similar to the attached file. I basically just want to see whether you'll get an IP address for that servier during this process.

 I just don't know.

Have you changed the security settings in Internet Properties? You're using FF, but I think Windows Media Player checks the settings in Internet Properties.

I have WMP 11, but it shouldn't be that much different for other version. Alt-T for Tools, then Options. Then click on Security tab, then Zone Settings. I left mine at Medium-High for Internet, which is the default.
