Inactive Cascading ComboFix windows after reboot

Status
Not open for further replies.
I was following the directions on this thread as it was the exact issue I was having, https://www.techspot.com/community/topics/microsoft-essentials-keeps-turning-off.200081/

After the reboot for the section on running ComboFix a blue cmd prompt opens and closes very quickly in a cascade. I've got task manager open and a series of .exe's are running; C:\ComboFix\pev.3xe, C:\ComboFix\CF316.3XE and a straight CombFix.exe

I let it run for a while thinking this must be the natural progression, meanwhile looking up the symptoms on another machine.

I eventually did a hard shutdown and restarted in safe mode. No cascading cmd prompts. Restarted in normal mode and they're back.

My instinct is to go into safe mode and uninstall, but my instincts also suggested to go at this alone so as not to waste someone else's time.

Once I've posted this from machine B I'll get back into safe mode on machine F('ed) and post the log files for malwarebytes and DDS

Thanks in advance!!!
