CD drive unable to read computer program disks

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my CD/DVD Drive. The drive can read both CDs and DVDs but it is unable to read computer program disks such as the Windows XP disk or Nortons 360 disk.

Is this a software or hardware problem?
If a software issue, how would I be able to fix the problem?

What exactly happens when you try? Are you able to right click on the CD/DVD drive with the disk inserted and select Explore?

when a program disk is in there, the CD/DVD drive doesn't recognise that there is a disk in there.
You can't explore it because it says there is no CD/DVD.
