Choosing the right GPU and monitor for gaming (FHD + VR)

Hi guys,
I'm searching for some advice regarding GPUs and Monitors for a mid-range PC dedicated for gaming in FHD and to use a VR set as well... also, hopefully, a future-proof one (like 6-7 years, but I know I have no guarantee here).

I was going to spend ~600 on the GPU. My choice was Palit 2070 Super GameRock Premium, but then I found that very little monitors (and very expensive ones) support G-sync, while the RX 5700 XT is supported by any FreeSync monitor. However, I also know that some FreeSync monitors can be used for G-sync as well since Nvidia released a patch this year.

In short, I'm confused now and don't want to make a bad choice.

What combination of GPU + Gaming Monitor would you recommend for about 1000$? Do you know any good FreeSync monitors that are compatible with g-sync around 300-350$? Or is it not worth my time and I should aim for something else?
Monitor preferences: 24-27" / dedicated for 1920x1080 (future-proof) / high refresh rate (144?), small response time / VA or IPS

What I already have for this set:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600x
MOBA: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
RAM: 3200mhz with CL16
CASE: Phanteks P400A + extra coolers
(+SSD, Power Supply, CPU cooler)
Win10 Home 64

That leaves you with $700, so you could easily afford a Radeon 5700 XT:

or a GeForce RTX 2070 Super:
