Choppy playback running Dvd from Macbook Pro to Epson Projector

Hi there,

I'm trying to watch movies on my Epson EX3200 projector from my Macbook Pro (2010) using a dvd in the VLC player. (via the USB cable that came with the projector.)

The playback is choppy and jumpy, panning shots make you sea sick. Can anyone tell me what is causing this delay and how to rectify it? Please? Searching other forums no one has this specific problem. Is my computer just too old? Also choppy streaming youtube.
