Comcast aims to combat cord cutting by limiting major internet speed increases to cable...

Absolutely, I get what you are saying. I rent Blu-ray right now in preference to streaming; IMO, the audio alone is worth it. I would also prefer UHD Blu-ray for 4K.

Yes, the audio with a good sound system on BD is awesome. Speaking of which, Audeze is making the worlds first binaural headphones with the Audeze Mobius. They have a built in processor that takes 7.1 surround sound and upconverts it to binaural. If you've never heard this kind of audio before I'd suggest you listen to virtual barber shop on a pair of headphones. It not only places audio cues accurately like 7.1 surround but it also places the sound correctly height and distance wise. You could for example close your eyes and hear exactly where the sound is coming from. If it's implemented well by Audeze it should provide a better experience than Dolby atmos as it also takes into consideration head size and environment (both of which affect sound intensity which is what our brain uses to find the location in 3D space of sound.

My experience with Comcast (Now Xfinity) is this: Bundle or pos out the Wang. We've had TV (cable), phone and Internet access with them since they were known as RoadRunner about 15 years ago. I called yesterday to see what they'd charge to security alarm monitoring. With a 2-year contract, they agreed to add security monitoring for $15.00 more a month and increase Internet access from 250Mbps to 400 Mbps for free. We're paying another company$50.00/month for security monitoring now. So we'll end up having about $35.00 a month. But anytime I hear the word "bundle' I equate it to getting screwed and monopolies.

Google Fiber, please come to Houston market next!

My thoughts only....

Game sizes are commonly larger than 50GB these days. And the games can not be installed or updated unless the whole download has been completed. As far as I am aware, you can't use the cloud as a install location.
Well Star Trek Online and NeverWinter online games sure the updates are you but with a good connection they down load quick enough. I don't have to stay there to watch it download. I have other things to do. Come back either the word ENGAGE STO or PLAY NW.. I started to download to the Cloud on all systems here. I turn off my NAS to save on power. Electric here is too high. LOL

Your the type of customer they want at Comcast. Remember those monthly charges add up at the end of the year is the real total. It's a shame the CATV has ground into what it is today. Higher prices and poor service when they're down you have no protection. No phone, No internet, No TV (smart to have a backup plan) No internet (switch to your cell phone as WiFi hotspot if you have 10GB plan on 4 G LTE extra $10 a month for that) otherwise the default is slow poke) Make sure you get everything they offer you in writting and locked in for 2 years as you say. Contract if you break that contract you will have to pay additional fee. To get out of that if you had to move say your going to area where there is no Comcast Service then you don't have to worry about any extra cost.

Comcast won't last long in multi-internet markets with that approach .....

What comcast needs to do is jump on netflix, sling, hulu's ships and make them share the costs of internet usage.
Or they can migrate together if possible, comcast, direct tv and any other isp-tv company just has **** channels and craptastic shows.
Thats one of the many reasons people have left comcast, I don't even like watching tv because it is filled with garbage.
If it were not for the internet I use with comcast, I would have closed down the account years ago and make my mother use someone else.

Comcast has a deal with Netflix already if you didn't know..

No doubt. I've had to tether to cell a few times but not a lot. We will be saving about $300/year after taxes, fees, etc.

Other option is AT&T but everyone in our subdivision who has it hates it. Universal complaint is dropped connections and speed even over wired connections. My neighbor (ATT) has a wireless security camera at his front door and I'm told it seldom maintains a connection. His security company has checked and even replaced the camera. They say it's wireless signal problem. I've got a Linksys WRT1900ACS with 4 high-gain antennas on it. We're going to install it this weekend and see what happens.

Thanks for reminder to read Comcast contract. My wife things it's funny, but I read all contacts. No exceptions. You're right about early termination too. I _think_ it's a base of $600.00 PLUS $xx for each month remaining on the contract.

Thanks for your reply! Gotta go check out DNS problem for client.

I stopped reading at 'You don't really need more than 10Mbps'

You obviously don't understand the internet from a perspective that's not single device video streaming. Try downloading a 98GB file on your 10Mbps connection.

Actually it was 12 mbps, who's downloading such a large file today. Save it to the cloud instead oh yes if you have 100 to 200 gb cloud space
Some Xbox one games are 80GB

Before you do that get old radio with AM/FM on it set the radio on AM station that is dead. Walk around the area where the WiFi is a problem or where the current WiFi router is or the cam is. Got to see what going on. Get out your cell phone if your on Android you can get WiFi Analyzer (free one) Check the signal for WiFi in his dwelling.. Or you can use OpenSignal app for WiFi even though it's more for cell coverage. What you doing is making for sure the db signal is stronger. Just became the WiFi router has 4 or 6 ANT on it doesn't mean the signal is strong. Cisco Linksys had 6 ANT 3/3=6. Interference is the downfall of the WiFi Router. Older house place WiFi router in the each corner (if you have more than 1 floor) and need AP for each floor if coverage is poor.

Comcast is suppose to be your friend but you see your contract gets you in the end. Now you both know the real truth. I say drop what you don't need and save the money for something you both can enjoy other than giving your hard earn money to Comcast. They have grown so much since the 80's. Overcharging all of us on channels we may or may not even care to watch. I rather have the choice to pick what I want to watch not them.

Good luck with your friends WiFi issue. Sounds like there is a transformer or power connection two close to the WiFi Cam.

PS4 has the same issue.. I don't have this problem.. If you have issues with one system download huge files and you can't do anything on your internet then you have a serious problem. I keep my modem and WiFi Router chilled 24/7 on 120 mm USB fan connected to continuous flow PSU with low loss power rack mounted strip. APC on that as well if power is lost everything stays on until 1 hr...

Hi, everyone - the article has been updated with an official statement from Comcast.

The TL;DR is that the company says 75% of their customers now have speeds of 100 Mbps or higher, 90 percent of the customers in their service areas have access to Gigabit services (including Internet-only customers) and they've already rolled out numerous 50 Mbps speed increases to Internet-only customers in "more than two dozen" US states.

Thanks!

They already mention that to me last july they were planning on doing more upgrades, hence the reason to charge more on internet service and modem rental cost all last year.
Without the cable tv crap, just using comcast internet is 60.00 dollars per month, slap on their modem you are renting is 7.00 bucks.
Factor in taxes and any technical support fees like the lines breaking or what not is 10 bucks.
On average it will be 77.00 dollars, thats not bad for high speed internet, this is a sample of what we have for ISP's currently.

I do not need more speed to download I am fine with 35 mbps with the tweaks I did on their coax line. Their box is lean instead of nest (a mess) It's also grounded too for lightning strikes. My module box is the same way as well. You can buy your own modem from Amazon just get the same one you had and send back their rental save that $8 per month x 12 = 96 a year the modem was less than that price. I've saved $576 bucks not paying that darn modem fee of $8 per month. They don't need to come here there is nothing else in that box just their thick ORANGE Line coax and pass-through ground connection to my modem. They say the closer the modem is to the terminal box the faster your service.
