Computer will not boot

Hey I have a 1.6 Ghz AMD Duron with 512 ram that I built yesterday. When I booted it up and installed everything, the computer worked fine. However when I shut down the computer and try to reboot, nothing happens. The power is there, the cd drives are blinking and I dun even get to the bios. However, when I unplug the cd drives, then I get to the boot screen. THe keyboard will work only while the ram is counting. Afterwards, nothing works. Anyone can help me? I tried clearing the CMOS already and no go.

the ram is compatible with the motherboard. any other suggestions?

try this one go to the bios and load the optimized defaults then unplug the CD rom drive and anything just the mother & Cpu + Ram + HDD + Vga and remove any pci cards like tv tuner ... then try to instal XP
and tell me what happen

how does one get into the bios? when the ram is checking, I hit the del to get into setup and then it locks up.

Do you have some different ram you can try? If not, then try taking one stick out (assuming you have two) and see if you can load up.
