Hello everyone,

So I have this problem which happened only three so far since I formatted and reinstalled winxp about three weeks ago. Broni helped me scan my computer very thoroughly at the virus removal section, but he couldn't find anything suspicious. He did however advise me to post my problem here if it returns. It did, so I'm posting:

So suddenly the computer would start reacting wirdly to muse clicks; I can't even explain all of the phenomena other than everything just goes crazy - the right mouse button brings out the menu but pressing items or double clicking other items doesn't work - they just don't respond. The "start" from the start button disappears and only a green rectangle remains. The clock and the icons near the clock disappear and when I try ctrl alt del it brings out an error message:

"taskmng.exe - Application Error - the application failer to initialize properly (0xc000012d). click on OK to terminate".

Than when I try to shut the PC down it either brings out the log off panel instead of the shut down one and becomes all graphically messed up and transparent.

I hope that you guys will be able to figure this out.

Thanks in advance,
Max.

You clearly have a corrupt file system and would suggest you do a low level format on your hard drive and then do a clean install, reinstall all mobo drivers, etc.

Try a different mouse and keyboard just to be sure they have no faults.

I would first run the manufacturers diagnostics on your hard drive, a few faults on the hard drive could be a contributory factor.

Follow this guide:

Identify the make of your hard drive and then use one of the links below to get the manufacturers diagnostic for ISO CD. Burn the image file to a CD, boot the PC with the disc in the drive and run the diagnostics. You first need to set the CD drive to 1st in the boot order in the Bios setup.

If you do not have an image burner use this free software to make the CD.

My hard drive is Fujitsu and they don't seem to have a utility bootable from a CD, and I just installed my windows a month ago...

The problem happens only once in a while and doesn't really bother me that much when I think about it. Will it be possible to just leave it as is?

It's up to you but if you want to run the diagnostics use the one from Seagate as this will check any make.

As this OS was only installed a month ago there has to be something wrong and if left it will not improve on its own. There could be a number of reasons, the disk check was only the first test to be done.

It's your call.

I just found out that Fujitsu is now owned by Toshiba so if you visit that support site you should get the dedicated diagnostics.
