If you've been a PC enthusiast for an extended period of time, there's a good chance you've heard of Alienware. Owned by Dell, the company is perhaps best known for its futuristic-looking gaming PCs, which often have pretty high price tags slapped onto them.

However, despite hefty price tags, Alienware's products have been around for years, and there's no sign that they're going anywhere anytime soon. The convenience it offers customers with its pre-made PC builds and laptops is well worth the price for many, it would seem.

Interestingly, though, Alienware might branch out in the future. In an interview with PCGamesN, Dell manager Frank Azor said there's a possibility that the company could start selling its own branded components in the future, such as motherboards, video cards, or SSDs. However, Azor admits that there would be a few hurdles for Alienware to overcome before that would be possible.

For starters, the component market is already heavily saturated. The last thing Azor wants to do is jump on the bandwagon with a "me too" product line-up.

"What we don’t want to do is just put our name on something. The Alienware name comes with a brand promise, and if we don’t deliver on that promise to customers consistently, they’re going to stop trusting the Alienware brand."

"You’ve got some really great component companies out there," he said. "Some of the graphics card partners are very good at what they do, they’ve mastered the art of overclocking and they’ve mastered building high quality, highly reliable add-in boards... What we don’t want to do is just put our name on something. The Alienware name comes with a brand promise, and if we don’t deliver on that promise to customers consistently, they’re going to stop trusting the Alienware brand."

In other words, Alienware isn't going to jump into the component game without something unique to offer its customers. This is a sensible approach - after all, as a customer, why should you buy an Alienware video card over another company's? Flashy aesthetics probably aren't going to be enough for you, or most other consumers.

Regardless, it's clear that Alienware isn't rejecting the idea outright so it could happen some day. What do you think? Would you buy an Alienware video card or SSD? Let us know in the comments.

Honestly Alienware was alot better before Dell bought it, I remember the IT issues of fixing them because alot of the parts were proprietary through Dell, shortly afterwards Origin PC seemed to spawn itself, Dell is getting better particularly with base level mainstream gaming, the Inspiron 15 gaming laptops are good for the price and quality, but anything above that just isnt competitive or looks extremely goddy and out there on design for what you are paying there is way too much plastic not enough metal in the housing. For the 2k price range you would be better off buying a Asus Zephyrus or a Gigabyte Aero, Msi even has compelling gaming laptops these days for reasonable prices, Acer and HP I steer clear from these days from poor quality to crap design and overpriced hardware with limited configs.

Dude you gotta let go of Alienware being on there own, that was like 15 years ago. Time to move form all that, Dell own them accept it.
The Inspiron 15 was replaced this year with a way better option the G7. By far some of the best mid range they have ever offered for gaming. A lot like and has got pretty good reviews.
Anything above that is Alienware. Yes you pay for the name but you do that for all high end models, MSI Stealth, Asus ROG and Acer Predator just to name a few.
HP Omens have got much better just like Dell did with the G series. I personally wouldn't just write them off because you don't care for them.

Been seeing those alienware gaming monitors popup on battlestations with no aleinware computer in the shot (usually a custom build) so they could prob enter the arena and they have the funding through Dell to make it interesting if they offer interesting stuff.

Can't wait for the Alienware GPU made completely of LEDS and costing 10x the amount of a gtx 2080 for the same performance

OP review it first then let us all decide to buy it or not. MSI, ASUS ACER, HP all have some sort of gaming laptop.

as @texasrattler said, Alienware 'on it's own' was years ago.
Just to mention ASUS: they are still selling 1080p display plus the rubbish max-q version of 1070/1080 which basically acts an overclocked normal mobile 1060/1070 with their laptop and for the same price you will get an AW laptop with 1440p, 2 full size slot for m.2 and 1x2,5-inch bay (it is quite useful when you don't have desktop and have tons of games.
ASUS always bit more expensive than others and barely innovative (except the new Double Capacity DIMM, but that's only for ASUS MBs which is another con)
I've had ASUS/Razer laptop, Asus GPU, MB...etc but not anymore, EVGA/Corsair/Samsung for PC, AW/Dell for laptop for the last 3 years, no disappointment.

I would mention that the most expensive is Razer with it's terrible customer service and RMA and warranty (unlike Dell/AW where you can disassemble the whole unit and the warranty wouldn't be voided unless you broke something)

Alienware build quality has gone downhill... Dell seems to have re-imagined their purpose... They USED to be the no-compromise gaming solution - cost be dammed...

But where are the dual-GPU laptops now? Can't get them from Alienware any more.... the 18 was the last - and that's a few years now...

The real sad thing is that Dell's own premium gaming line, the XPS, was transformed into their business line - to be fair, they ARE pretty nice laptops... but the old 2007 XPS m1730 laptop was the king of gaming laptops = we'll never see build quality like that again :(

dual GPU gaming isn't worth it, it does not give you double FPS and AAA games or any other in general does not support more than one or if it does scaling terribly.
GPUs nowadays strong enough to handle 60-90 FPS easily on 1080/1440p.
If you need workstation then get a laptop with quadro, you can get them for the price of a dual-GPU laptop, also there are couple custom laptop brands with dual GPUs (Origin PC, PCSpecialist...etc here in the UK)

Actually Dell's own gaming line (G5 & G7) stop around £1600-1700 where Alienware starts...

I've owned stacks of Clevo Desktop Replacements (in many names), and I did not like their quality at all, whilst the Alienware laptop quality seems to be top of the line, for those of us who need a desktop replacement, and need it with some style.

And like someone else here mentioned, their warranty doesn't expire for opening it up - great for people like me who tinker.

But the most important reason to buy - is that Dell is global. When it dies, their Next Business Day warranty is the dogs ********. No messing, they come right out to wherever you are.

So far I have called them in;

Ireland, UK, Thailand, Vietnam (this one wasn't great, but their arm was just formed at that time), USA.

Good luck getting THAT kind of service on the road with ANY of the brands you mentioned, less you give me some personal anecdote that convinces me otherwise.

I agree it isn't worth it.... but there are people with money to burn... The top of the line Titan Graphics cards aren't "worth it" either... but people buy them...

And while dual-GPU systems don't scale perfectly, they still provide better performance than 1 GPU - most of the time anyways... As the 1080 is the best card a laptop can get (The Ti is desktop only), 2 1080s in SLI is the closest one can get to smooth 4k gaming on a laptop... And dual 2080s once they've been released to mobile....

Alienware or Dell's own XPS line used to be the laptop you'd buy for this extravagance... but no longer :(

Now you have to buy Asus or MSI...

it completely depends on your needs and priorities, If I buy any of those laptops from Amazon, Newegg, Best buy, I can return it immediatly grant it there is a restocking fee, Globaly, Asus operates, but we all know their customer service sucks, Dell is great with stuff like that, and if you need the safety net then yeah they are the better option, but make no mistake Alienware Dell is overpriced plastic crap, personally

In that case yes when it comes to Global, Dell, Lenovo, HP certainly but you are paying for that, as well as everyone else that buys from them it's part of the upcharge, most people don't need that though which makes it irrelavent to my statemwne, as for the clevo, they are desktop replacements, an Alienware 15 is not a replacement anymore, in fact you can't even get a desktop proc in them anymore, a 15 inch Clevo depending will offer that, it really use cases that separate the need, for the average Joe in the use any of the laptops bought from an etailer allow returns and exchanges, Asus usually has a turnaround of 2 weeks, but as you stated their customer service sucks the chances you will need it though are low.

Just for reference old Alienware is Origin PC, there are much better options for those high costs, I have the Insp. 15 it's good but there is zero reason to buy a Dell version of Alienware, there is zero innovation and goddy go go gamer ascetics that make you look like a child, as stated by someone else Global purchases by people travelling yeah I can understand, Dell is global but 90% of the average Joe doesn't need it.

And?
So don't buy one. The G7 isn't a Alienware it's just a much better version of the Inspiron 15". MSI and Asus offer better versions as they use a full video card and not a Max Q version. Other than that, you still get a decent gaming laptop for several hundred dollars cheaper, for some it's all they need.
Alienware wasn't made for the average Joe. Was made specifically for gaming n gamers. The Inspiron was made for the average Joe.

I think you need reading comprehension classes, I never said anything bad about the regular Dell Inspiron 15 gaming, or the new G series, what I am trashing is Alienware for being overpriced goddy, child inspired design garbage. I stated the Insp 15 was the best deal in the lower range of 800-1200$ gaming laptops, above that level for the Price Alienware is irrelavent and complete garbage as a product, for starters there are a number of other boutique dealers that have better quality and materials and all around better products.Alienware died the moment Dell got it's hands on it, and it looked cool when we were kids, now it's childish garbage, get over it.

People look childish walking into a conference room with an Alienware it's easy, even worst is the walking advertisement for Apple, immediately the person is gullible and simplistic beyond measure, they are easily patronized into whatever you want from them all you need to do is stroke their large ego and break stuff down into Barney style so they can understand. Honestly people make it all to easy.

I never said that you said the Inspiron was bad or anything. I talked about their new G7 which are much better products than the Inspiron line. Inspiron 15 has never been reviewed all that well. Plus there are tons of laptops in that same price range, most are all crap. Low end video cards are usually used, low amount of ram, some even put in just a HDD which is garbage for todays games.

So you dont like Alienware. Ok. So what, some like it. Some will like MSI, Asus or even Razer which is utterly overpriced but ppl still buy n like them.

>>> They make the best gaming laptops, yes they are plastic, would you prefer them metal? With a power brick they already tip the scales of what is allowed as carry-on weight. Expensive? Yep, but look at the parts...

>>> Saying that 'most people don't need the warranty' IS irrelevant, if I'm buying a portable high-end PC, I expect that it be up and running as quick as possible, post fault. - At no time did I mention a 15" Alienware. The 17 & 18's (now eol) have the top end GPUs, and that is what I buy.

As for CPUs - the 17" with the 6-core mobile parts complete with most desktops I've ever seen. And I put my money where my mouth is.

If you think an Alienware 17 R5 is crap, I say you know F.A.

What in God's name are you talking about, the Inspiron 15 gaming was incredibly well received and highly praised compared to MSI, Acer, and HP versions in the same spec range, yes the new G series is just an extension of the 15 gaming, the only crit people had was the tn panel which they changed and added an IPS option for 50$ more. HDDs are garbage for gaming.......lol ok, load times ok, you have no clue, do you buy into all marketing BS enjoy those extra frames you get from an SSD......LOL....yes some will like Alienware the 15 year old little boys who love marketing BS that want go go frag harder rgb lighting, and a design style from a 15 year old and enjoy paying for overpriced large bezel plastic..........
