No, Microsoft needs DX10 as incentive to buy vista, its a marketing too, and there isn't even an xp gamer edition as far as I know.

There aren't very good alternatives, staying with regular XP is just fine.

The "gamer edition" may be like another "black edition" I've seen someone mention around here. Its unofficial and is just a pirated/hacked OS. As far as I know there have been attempts to make dx10 work on XP. But I didn't follow it closely so I don't know how that is coming, probably not real well since I haven't heard 'it works perfect!'.

I did go to a Office 2007/Vista Launch Event in St. Louis back when those released, and sat in on a presentation where DX 10 on XP was brought up by an audience member. The Microsoft presenter answered the question in a way that to me sounded like it may be a future possibility. Now a couple years later and Microsoft hasn't done it, but that to me doesn't mean that it isn't possible, it just means that MS was trying to push more Vista sales. So it wouldn't surprise me to see DX10 working on XP through some hacked setup. But I doubt it will ever be official.

alright thanks guys

i currently right now have xp black edition (no dx10 tho =[)

not sure if its just my computer or the os

but just today, i've been having some weird problems

whenever i boot the computer, after loading the desktop and all, after i start clicking start menu or anything random, everything freezes except my cursor

task manager wont pop up or nothing so yeah

i guess ill just go back to regular xp

and wait for windows 7

or should i get like 64 bit version of vista

Wate for 7 to be officially released (not the beta)
get it but don't install it for like a month so they can work out all the bugs

Didn't you already ask this nosebleedxD? Anyway, yes, none of them are good, they really don't even work, last time I checked (a while ago actually).

Only if you really want.

hey xd,
there was a project that had quite a following called the' alky project' that was being written by and spearheaded by 22 year old software engineer Cody Brociuos , it was an attempt to create dx 10 for xp. the Alky project merged with falling leaf sytems LLC in 2007 I think it was and turned out to be an abject failure. and has since been abandoned. be very aware of anyone,or site that claims to have dx10 download. the alky project had an alpha release that many tried and several forums had folks who have reported that it has messed up their machines fubar.
